Down the rabbit whole again... King Cobra Spit fire

You may need a new ESA module that will work with the electronic ignition, or else you won't be able to shift it to neutral when you have it in the water and there's a load on the prop. Call CDI electronics and tell them what you're doing and they should be able to suggest one of the ones they...

Volvo Penta 5.0 GL PWTR - severe overheat - thought I was on fire - troubleshooting Questions

Your cooling system is the same as what I have on the Cobra except for the impeller. It is a cool manifolds system in that the manifolds should be getting cool water the whole time the engine is running, even when the stat is closed. When the stat opens the manifolds will get a little warmer due...

Any reason I couldn't run the engine without the drive attached?

Might want to stuff a rag in the driveshaft bellows to keep water from the exhaust bellows from spraying into it…

    Volvo Penta 4.3

Electric fuel pump? If so how is power being sent to the pump after the engine starts? Volvo's way is different than the Merc way. Mine still has a mechanical pump, but all the newer ones need to have a safe way of powering the fuel pump after the engine starts.

1993 Mercruiser 350 Ski Magnum carbed oil type

BTW the only automotive engine I have with a flat tappet cam is my '98 Jeep Grand Cheroke with 4.0 liter six, it is quiet as can be with a steady diet of Valvoline MaxLife 10w/30. 182,000 miles. And this oil is not high in zinc, IIRC about 860 PPM On the other hand the Merc Syn Blend 25/50 is a...

1993 Mercruiser 350 Ski Magnum carbed oil type

The reality is, it may take years for a possible failure to manifest, and other causes like bad exhaust, overheats, etc may cause a real failure before a theoretical failure due to oil choice. The only way to know, is to do oil analyses, consistently and compare wear metals and the physical...

Help identify this Volvo Penta drive:

Joint Venture SX Cobra or just Volvo SX, it is the one built during the joint venture with OMC, then Volvo bought out OMC and it was called the Volvo SX, that one is a DP Definitely not the XPD

1993 Mercruiser 350 Ski Magnum carbed oil type

Pick one, run a season and do an oil analysis that will tell you if it's good enough for your use.

Ahh that is probably easily fixed BUT what’s happening with that engine mount pad? Looks like moisture got in, froze & expanded & cracked the ‘glass

    Bent push rods….calling engine builders

GMs not the only one with non-adjustable valve trains, many V8 engines had non adjustable valve trains even back in the old days. Mopar for one, I'm sure there were others. When I did the heads on mine, I used the up and down play method and found it much easier to feel play.

2021 Suzuki DF 2.5 nearly new, very low hrs. This isn't mine but it is a relative's that I am trying to fix for him. Volvo Penta 5.0 GL PWTR - severe overheat - thought I was on fire - troubleshooting Questions

I think your temps are normal except for the manifolds & elbows, I think thats higher than it should be…my Cobrs has the same Volvos style exhaust system and in the hose at idle runs about 95-100* for the manifolds & elbows. The only difference is the Cobra has the impeller In the drive vs on...

    Bent push rods….calling engine builders

The fact that the heads were replaced from what the originals were, makes it very important to verify just what valvetrain you have. There are many variations in Chevy small block heads, and it's possible you had a net lash (not adjustable) set up on the originals, but if you didn't get the same...

Four Wins Volvo Penta stiff steering

I’d have someone hold the outdrive steady while you turn the steering wheel this way you can feel of it’s in the helm unit under the dashboard. If so at this point I’d probably replace both the helm & the cable as both are probably original. If it’s not there then try doing the opposite, have...
