    Spring replacement?

Also read the section on that site where he explains the difference in how the force of the weight is transferred from the axle to the frame, torsion vs springs. With the springs the force is spread out along the frame (each one has two mounting points) but with torsion it is concentrated all in...

Volvo Penta 5.0 GL PWTR - severe overheat - thought I was on fire - troubleshooting Questions

PS here's what a reman head looks like (4.3 V6, pre-Vortec)... I think what you're seeing is the residue of the old head gasket Also in this pic you can see one advantage of the V6, none of the exhaust valves is right next to another, I guess it can run a bit cooler under high loads, than the...

Volvo Penta 5.0 GL PWTR - severe overheat - thought I was on fire - troubleshooting Questions

The advantage of having a machine shop checked the heads is that they will remove all the valves and that will reveal cracks you’d never see otherwise. My overheating happened in July of 2013, after this it ran perfectly normally you’d never know that there were cracks in both heads! I was...

I used up all my curse words yesterday

Chrysler Pentastar you have to remove the upper intake to do one bank of plugs. To do the plastic oil filter housing the whole intake has to come off.

What I’d to for sure, I’d take the heads to an automotive machine shop and get them magnafluxed to see if they are cracked or not. Where it can happen is the center cyls exhaust ports because the exhaust valves are right next to each other so it gets the hottest there. Mine had cracks in the...

Volvo Penta 855932 Prestolite 7801A advance springs

Yep can’t get those modules for the Prestolite BID (electronic) units, the earlier ones with points & condenser can still be serviced. I have spare springs, points plate etc for mine…I think I might have bought the last of those in the inventory!

Really strange issue with DPSM trim system - hoping for help

I think that the Volvo SX has a manifold for the trim lines in the gimble housing just like the OMC Cobra, it’s tough to get at with the engine in place, maybe when the lines were connected to that they were crossed..
