    Screeching Noise from Frankenstein 383

I'm the opposite I prefer the carb on my boat as it can be fixed with simple hand tools. So in your experience it holds up ok? My other hobby is muscle cars and you seem to hear mixed reviews for folks, mostly that some of the systems are not OEM quality systems like on modern cars

    Engine mount nut sizes

2003 vintage since I turned a 4.3 into a 5.0 I technically dont have a merc serial. Original 4.3 serial was OM694685, that is what the side engine mounts are from. I am going to do an alignment - what size are the adjustment nuts on the side engine mounts? I thought they were 1 & 1/16" or 1 &...

    Prop Swap opinions...

this has been my experience with 4 blades as well, not only for my own boat but a neighbors as well. be interested to see if you can hit 4800 maybe a tad higher. Not that you have to wind it out that often but when pitched to the top end of the WOT rpm range throttle response is much better...

    torque or angle torque

the rachet head broke set at 85 ft lbs. I bought a used snap on, No sense screwing around with angles on a cheap wrench. Because this was middle of doing a timing chain on the wife's mini I punted and just marked the bolt head for the angles, which also worked just fine as long as you can get at...

Merc 350 bolt v 2 barrel carb fluctuating RPMS

Yes . Some mercs have two grey wires on the negative coil post. One tach one to module. If you have two disconnect the tach one. Some mercs have the tach signal wire bonded to the single grey off the coil. In this case tach the signal wire off the back of the tach to test

Merc 350 bolt v 2 barrel carb fluctuating RPMS

I would disconnect the tach and see if the mis in timing goes away. Is there play in the distributor shaft/rotor? Also verify that voltage is not dropping to positive side of coil. Also may disconnect the shift interrupt for testing if it is an alpha It could be the module but might look to...

    Rotax 717 and 720 reliability

it does come down to how they were maintained, oil used and if they ran lean. If compression is still good that likely means it was reasonably cared for. Not exactly the same engine but we just sold our 2004 GTI RFI LE (787 engine) with just shy of 300 hrs on it. We bought it with about 100...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Many here speak highly of the SEI drive as one can bolt it on and go, plus it comes with a 3 year warranty. So for an older boat owned by a DIYer its a good fit. I personally have never had a drive I maintained let go so I have never used one. you got the idea keep and eye on the lube level and...
