    Mercruiser 5.0 Misfiring

Sounds more electrical wonder if you are losing 12 v run, either loose battery connections or grounds, or cannon plug between helm harness and engine harness

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

if you still have a greaseable gimbal bearing the grease ends up in bellows when you grease it. If there was little to no lube in drive its going some where. I would start by pressure testing the drive to see where it is leaking. if you are experienced mechanically inclined get the factory...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

It should be basically full to the vent plug on the side is your bellows full of oil ? Would assume your input shaft is leaking . Given the age of the drive would not be surprised if it needs all the seals .

As mentioned above its below the elbow in the top of the down pipe. Rubber coated metal, rubber breaks down over time and if overheated...

Exhaust shutter must have overheated at some point

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

Would think the hot running is what lead to the shutters falling off, usually when water flow is impeded everything on the exhaust cooks off

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

Larger diamter is for the input yoke shaft seal. you will have to remove that to remove the vertical gear to get at this seal

Nice to see it come out ok.

How would a compromised bellows sink the boat?

Stringer had a huge opening with giant rubber seal I would think that is way more of a risk

Boat had been stored for 19 years

Drill stringers and transom to verify they aren’t rotted

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

I would inspect the bellows and gimbal while out before digging into it. If they are in good shape and you doo them later- the only thing you loose is pulling the drive which is a ten min job if you've done it before. Bellows and Gimbal are great projects for the off season if they are in good...

    1987 Merc 180 (“470” 3.7 litre) won’t idle

Get a harbor freight ultrasonic cleaner to soak it in. Most failed attempts at rebuilding carbs are because people don’t get it clean enough. Mikes carb parts has good quality kits

Boat had been stored for 19 years

100% when I bought my current boat in 2015 it was an 11 year old/ 37 hr boat where PO cracked the block. other than the engine, trailer tires/brakes everything else was near perfect. You'd be better off for flip boats to get a blown engine , then go to the junkyard for a long block

Boat had been stored for 19 years

Some good thoughts on the motor above. take plugs out try to turn it over you may get lucky. I have had engines sit for years and turn over no issue. if it does get hung up pull the drive as the drive, ujoints and gimbal could be locking it up not just the engine. Only huge flag I see is the...

Alpha 1 gen 2 bellows service

yep I'm in that group. Have a holist but its in 25-27" of water. I leave the boat on a trailer, when I used to leave it in an old barn you parked it outside and the owner moved them in at his convenience. For $12/month storage who cares... My father built a 3 bay garage where it winters now but...

    1987 Merc 180 (“470” 3.7 litre) won’t idle

X2 I took a edlebrock off my 65 GTO that ran perfectly (changed manifold and carb set up to tripower), drained the gas out the vents and put it in a box for 3 years, put it back on and it would not idle until I cleaned it

Alpha 1 gen 2 bellows service

Due to where I use and store my boat the drive is 3/4 to all the way up almost all the time and I got 18 years out of them…

Alpha 1 gen 2 bellows service

X2 I inspect yearly. My 2004 boat the OEM ones lasted 18 years and still were not leaking- fresh water lift kept boat. Given that lifespan of the OEM parts doesnt make sense to use aftermarket unless you are selling it

    Prop Swap opinions...

I would use the timing light at rest to verify what you tach reads vs it rather set it up to read while running. Just rev to 3500 in neutral and compare maybe go up towards redline see how far they are off if at all.
