    I Got Me a Mercury !!!

Yesterday, the motor needed a squirt of fuel to get it started, but today, after running all sorts of fuel system and combustion chamber cleaner through the engine, it started on the first pull. I got to do a little more work, prepping it for 'action'. I decided to give it a fresh coat of...

    I Got Me a Mercury !!!

    You need the lane-keeping function . . . oh wait-a-sec . . . that is with cars

    I Got Me a Mercury !!!

Reviving this thread from 12 years ago . . . My beloved Mercury 7.5 HP (1969 vintage) pretty much bit the dust at the end of last season. I decided that its tour of duty was up and it is honorably relegated to the spare parts bin. . . I have been scouring the Internet over that past week for...

Regal 2100 take long time to get on plane

from AI: A Volvo-Penta DTC 1158 indicates a problem with the oxygen sensor (O2 sensor) in the closed-loop gasoline system on bank 2. Specifically, it suggests an issue with the O2 sensor after the catalyst on the starboard (right) side of the engine. I have a hunch that is may not be the...

    Antifreeze under stairs

However, if you are like me you forget to fasten the top of the A/C water strainer and that forward bilge starts to fill with water, thus purging the antifreeze. Of course, then you realize you forgot to secure the strainer lid and take corrective action quickly before too that sinking feeling...

    Antifreeze under stairs

You are looking at the shower sump box. Its job is to pump drainage from the bathroom faucets/shower up to the waste tank. Along side of it looks like an air conditioning intake/strainer/pump. The pink AF is put there during winterization to prevent any water that might collect there over the...

7.4 merc won't start after winter storage

Perhaps that was water standing in the intake? Not sure if you smelled gasoline while doing all the cranking. Rebuild the carb would be a good thing. . . or just get a new one. with any no-start situation it is back to the basics . . . Compression, Spark, Fuel. It sounds like you didn't...

Trim up doesn’t work when on plane

Probably leaking (somewhere), so the pump is not able to generate enough pressure to lift the drive except when there is minimal force on it ( stationary, going slowly). Milky fluid is a clue. So, see where it is leaking . . . probably at the trim cylinder fittings or the ram seals.

How much slip does your prop have ?

If you had 100% slip, you'd be going 0 mph at your WOT RPM. If you had 0% slip, you'd be going at your theoretical maximum speed based on WOT RPM. Slip is like prop efficiency. Less slip is better.

Bravo Installation Kit ( ring gaskets)

I little bit of marine grease will hold the o-rings in place while you install the drive. Glue will be less ideal.

How much slip does your prop have ?

It's just math, so any prop slip calculator should give you the results. :D I made a spreadsheet that I use to calculate slippage and compare props. I should run the numbers on my current boat . . . might be scary though . . . o_O

    2019 4.3 Mercruiser/Alpha One Outdrive

14.25" is obviously way too small a prop. I would try a 14.75 / 23 if you can find one and see where that leaves you. If you go to a 15.25", I'd go down to a 21 pitch. I cannot recall what the maximum prop size is for an Alpha drive but it might be 15.5" Do you have the original prop for the...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

Quick update . . . I ordered another battery box to match the ones in the boat, because who wants to look at mis-matched battery boxes? It took over a week to be delivered, so installing the 3rd LiTime battery will be on the docket for next week. I installed a toggle switch so that I can...

    Over voltage (again)

I spent a little more time checking things out on the boat. It appears that a good night's sleep has helped the alternator . . . It is getting about 15 volts instead of 17+ volts as it was yesterday. Not totally within spec, but not terrible. That alternator is in charge of re-charging the...

    Larson replacement parts

It depends on the part that you might be looking for. Boats use a lot of common components, such as engines, electronics, hardware, etc. So, you can usually find them or a suitable replacement from marine retailers. Things specific to the hull are going to be exclusive to Larson, and they...

    Over voltage (again)

OK - a little more testing after our day out on the boat. The port alternator is putting out 17.3 volts at idle speeds. So, I think the voltage regulation is cooked. I'll get a new alternator on order. I'm going to do away with the 2 alt/3 battery isolator. It seems a little unnecessary and...

    Over voltage (again)

Quick update - i disconnected the starboard engine/battery from the isolator. Starboard engine is no longer getting over voltage. We salvaged the day and took the boat out. Stayed close as there is more diagnosis to do.

    Over voltage (again)

Tomorrow, I will focus on the battery isolator with the port engine running. It has occurred to me that the port alternator is doing the over-voltage, but the isolator is giving the voltage only to the starboard engine.
