    Yeah polishing the cast AL end caps won't go so well, the grain of the material isn't suitable for polishing to a mirror finish.

    What I like about the IOs is the no HP rating limiting it. There's something to be said about not hanging a motor outside off the back of your boat that's one thing for sure!

    Pretty sure it has to do with the transom cutout on an OB model and the weight capacity of an IO which has 800+ lbs of cast iron in the back with a full transom.

    Yeah I have a few SW stern pics, looking back to find some of it outside. The SW is 3 pieces, the center pan and the 2 side 'wings' that attach to the gunnels and transom.     Yeah my SS has a one piece splashwell, no big concern in taking out the spalshwell and it's best to do it anyway so you can clean the inner transom skin of any corrosion.     Those transom pits are really some of the best I've seen. Use some cleaning vinegar to help neutralize the corrosion in the pitting and a wire wheel to get into the pits.
