    Transom saver or no?

I don't know how much flex on an aluminum transom is too much as a repetitive force that would fatigue the aluminum. Some is allowed, I guess. Aluminum wings flex all the time and don't break....so I dunno. My point was with my boat, just to use as an example for someone asking a question. My...

    Transom saver or no?

with all do respect: The original merc 60 4stroke on my pontoon did balance fairly evenly over the transom using the latch on the motor, which I later learned was not to be used for such. Regardless, any hand bouncing I did reflected the weight was centered over the transom. I didn't use a...

    Transom saver or no?

I can't speak for a 35. That's a lightweight motor. For my 2021 Merc. 115hp, I use one. I was surprised at the bounce and flexing of the transom on my pontoon just by using my hands .

    Prop problem

well, I'm no engineer and no training in metallurgy, so ya'll can have at it, but I do understand metal/mineral/substance hardness ratings. And common sense. (lol, my opinion🤓) So a stainless steel prop at the moment of impact will transfer a lot more of that kinetic energy downstream to...

28' Pontoon with 3.0 Mercruiser Prop

"If you need to gain 400 rpm to reach your rpm max then subtract two inches of pitch on next prop. The general rule is 200 rpm for each inch of pitch and 100 rpm change for each inch on the diameter. If you carry heavy loads or tow toys, some folks adjust prop pitch to increase wot rpm beyond...

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

I wanna clarify my "hub ring" statement. The '05 Merc. 60, 4stroke I had was missing that ring. There was a lot I didn't know with the boat purchase in 2017. My new re-power, 2021 Merc. 115 hp, I think (ass-u-me d) that it has that ring. I bought it brand new so I never looked, I don't know...

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

yep. The exhaust exits through the prop hub instead of around the outside.

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

and also, my 2021 Merc 115hp has a plastic ring that snaps into the gear case for exhaust gas sealing. Maybe that's in sterndrives also?

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

jesus buddy, you get on here and ask questions and for help then start dissing all the answers. So just go run the prop, it's that simple.

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

yes, the gases will take that path. do what you want, but 41/4" prop hubs don't work with 4 3/4" gear case diameters. That's why they make props with 4 3/4" hub diameters.

Prop barrel slightly smaller than the gearcase

what motor do you have. Different motors can have different gearcase diameters, like my Merc. CT. the problem is the exhaust gases will exit over the blades and cause ventilation problems.
