Boat sitting in slip caught fire, then set this one on fire

Once fiberglass ignites, it continues to fuel the fire, kinda like throwing gasoline on a fire. Another reason glass boats are costly to insure.

    Brake based limited slip differentials

We have nice ramps for the most part, but having a good quarter inch of green slime covering the ramp for the length of your tow vehicle makes the nice ramp not so nice. Steepness is a big factor, I have watched big dual wheel trucks burning rubber trying to pull 6K boats up these ramps, each...

    Brake based limited slip differentials

I only use 2wd on most retrieval, but the 4wd is there if needed.... and it has been needed on a few ocassions!! Water has been low this season, really low this fall...ramps are like ice, many can't get traction with 4wd...at season's end we are seeing a number of folks using two vehicles to...

    Brake based limited slip differentials

I would never use a two wheel drive on a slippery boat ramp with a 4K boat, that is an accident looking for a place to happen......

Should I use a kicker when trolling in a 4.3L Mercruiser?

On Lake Erie, I have found that I get more bites when my boat wanders a bit. Pure straight runs gets fewer bites. I look at a kicker motor as a safety device. Never had to be towed in 60 plus years...knock on wood..in the event of engine failure, the kicker has always taken me back to the...

Starting a 1974 Tri-Hull Restoration, it's a Stryker Mark IV model. Need help with any information or an owners manual.

I hope you replaced all the rotten wood in the skeleton of the boat. You will find there is an exclusion in your insurance coverage for rotten wood frame. They call it negligence. Those 3 cylinder 70 up motors were great, I had a couple over the years. First thing to do is a compression...

Should I use a kicker when trolling in a 4.3L Mercruiser?

How reliable is your 4.3 ? Ever had your motor not run ? Do you carry towing insurance ? I have a kicker because it is easier to control my speed. With a small kicker and a bow mount trolling motor with I pilot and can set my course and can get up to 5-6 mph if needed down to less than 1...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

I often mention that my first car was a Mercury Comet with I6 motor, today I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee with a V6. When I open the hood of my Jeep, there is no room to fit my arm or hand to fix anything. When I had my 1961 Comet, I could actually stand beside the engine inside the engine...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

You mentioned to many safeties on today's vehicles....I would not consider most of them " safety features", most are expensive features that cause mire trouble than they are worth !

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

Safeties ??? Hardly, when your vehicle just stops without warning and you don't have a diagnostic computer in the trunk...not what I call safe ! In the old days, our cars would cough, stutter and run rough before quiting, giving you plenty of time to get over out of the way. Just a few weeks...

    Spinning reels

"Try before you buy" has always been my moto...even fishing rods and reels. If they are gonna wobble, they will do it in the store before you buy it. Never caught fish big enough to require top of the line equipment. Most of my gear is at least 10 years old, some older. If it doesn't work...

Winterizing, use E-0 stabilized gas or install shut off valve and run carb out of fuel?

I use some form of fuel treatment all summer and good inline filters, at season end just run the carbs dry on muffs. Any fuel that might be left has been treated so no concern. Fuel tank is plastic so no worry about rust. I do suck out the remaining fuel and use it elsewhere so next season...
