    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

I'm talking about racers that race normal everyday production cars. Saw a wonderful video recently showing a professional driver running a Corvette around the Nürburgring. TC was blinking the whole way around, handily contributing to better braking, faster corners, and efficient WOT...

No oil on dip stick after adding 6 liters

Are you sure that all of the tube and parts you pushed into the dipstick tube came back out? Odd that everything read normally before you changed the oil. Is this the first time you've performed this service on this engine? In not, were there any issues the last time?

    Fuel Pressure Regulator 885174 - Repair/Replace

After verifying whether or not that's the issue, you'd be no worse off to see if you can disassemble and fix it yourself.

    Let's talk skill...

Ahh! I love Michigan lakes. We used to stay a week at Houghton Lake every year when I was growing up. Pristine water, excellent Walleye fishing, and the perfect lake for a young kit to learn how to boat, thanks to my uncle who always had one for us to use the whole week.

That's just a one-in-a-million thing right there - wow! I'd love to see that video. Good thing that's the exception and not the norm. Even professional racers utilize the traction control on the car if it has it.

Trim keeps sometimes keeps going down after hitting the button.

I do remember reading that VP has available some sort of smart control system for the tilt/trim that handles the pump on some newer-than-mine models. Hopefully someone that has worked with one of those can chime in - I would only be making assumptions. As a side note, the polarity is also not...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

Got one in the Liberty CRD. Other than breaking the torque converter when I did the tune on the engine, they're pretty reliable. Of course, I had to rebuild the 47RE behind my 500HP 1200lb-ft 24V when it was hopped up as well, but I'd rather rebuild a RE than that RFE. Lots less expensive...

Nope. It's a drain plug. When one wishes to drain the transmission, one removes the plug, lets it leak until it stops, then shoves a screwdriver into the hole and break free the sacrificial plastic nipple that extends into the transmission to the required oil level to let the rest out. That...

Yes - it would be a great idea if there was a vent. There's not. It's a convoluted mess of stupidity involving overfilling the transmission then allowing the excess to drain off. All of this has to be performed between a precise and narrow range of temperature. Edit: I almost forgot... the...

Trim keeps sometimes keeps going down after hitting the button.

The two brown wires are for the neutral safety starter interlock switch. If you got it started, those are hooked up properly. That "more info" would be much more helpful to remote troubleshooting than less...

And on yet another stroke of German ingenuity, like on both my Mercedes, the transmission gets filled through the drain hole. Leave it to the Germans to think of the most complicated ways to do the simplest things.

#1 best thing for me would be Air Conditioning. Living in a place that frequently sees summertime dewpoints in the upper 70s and above, it is a necessity. Oh, and forced induction: IMHO, anything else and you may as well leave it home. As far as the rest of the mess, meh... I can take it or...

Mercruiser 165 6cyl inline dies when boat is in the water

The nice thing about an inline six is their smoothness. Anything else commonly available in a boat will vibrate more. That engine can be modified to make quite a few ponies if one so chooses.

Keep blowing my starter solenoid up.

It's actually a positive temperature coefficient. Higher temp, higher resistance. With temp in the Y direction and resistance in the X, the graph slopes upwards NTC slopes downwards. This is why they are rated at a certain voltage and while making light. That 5 watt bulb draws much more power...

Trailer bearing blowout. Need help with repair(s)

Ouch! I think I remember reading about you writing about that. I've been lurking a few (lol) years but haven't started posting anything since lately getting back into boating steady.

Keep blowing my starter solenoid up.

Naah - been an EE for almost 40 years now. I'm pretty daft in my older age, but this is back-of-my-hand stuff. In a few years, God willing I live that long, I'll likely be sitting in a nursing home rattling this stuff off mindlessly to the nurse changing my diaper, not even remembering what I...

Trailer bearing blowout. Need help with repair(s)

Holeee smokes! That's crazy! I guess that's one good thing about not having any 80MPH speed limits on roads around here. If we did, I would have most certainly done it when I was a kid. Glad you survived!

They simply don't make 'em like that any longer.

    boat foam?

Have you purchased any lately? The stuff is worth more than it's weight in copper now.

    Cicada

I imagine that would be a good idea. There's no telling what a little moisture and some bug guts would do in an anaerobic environment.
