probably dumb question, but "overflow port" dumping gas?

I looked this up. You're correct, my bad. I can't help myself from slipping that Blitz story in whenever possible. Parasitic P.I. law firms and the heavy-handed EPA are the same class of hemorrhoid in my mind. But regulation writers like job security like everyone else. So stay tuned, more regs...

Teaching the wife to drive the boat...

My 26 yr old daughter wants me to teach her to use our boat. She wants to invite her friends to our river place (when I'm not there) and take them out. Driving up and down the Miss. won't be a problem. She knows how to stay between the cans and nuns, and knows the safe, deep sloughs. But...

    cooking

Home made hot sauce. I've been growing, canning and drying hot peppers for over 20 yrs. Consumption has fallen behind production. So using them up as hot sauce is a solution. Pour off and save the brine. Macerate the seeds and skins out with a ricer. Add back enough brine so it pours. Then you...

Transom Water Pipe, should I replace?

Maybe. See the pic. This may not represent your set up. Once the clamp plate is removed a new seal should slip over the water tube. But you can't help but wonder why this wasn't done rather than the white goo under the clamp plate. Plus your tube is looking old and beat up. So it's worth a try...

Transom Water Pipe, should I replace?

Per achris more info on your model outdrive will improve the accuracy of forum responses. If you don't know, a pic will help. Pics of both the out drive and the gimbal assembly. The outdrive is bolted to the bell housing from the rear. Your bellows are attached to the bell housing from it's...

....Think I'd have learned by now.

Einstein supposedly said "I“the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”. Questions about if he really said this, but it's also a good definition for stupidity. At least every two years I smoke my snowblower's auger drive belt. And I change...

Fresh water flushing of Mercrusier with alpha one drive

See the attachment below, which I posted earlier. The Merc process is to measure pump output at 1000 rpm. The volume varies with the particular gear ratio of the out drive.

Fresh water flushing of Mercrusier with alpha one drive

I'm assuming you have a raw water cooled engine, not a heat exchanger. I've never done this, so this is my best guess. Disconnect the raw water hose from the thermo hsg and use a splice barb to extend a section of hose overboard. Then clamp a short section of hose onto the thermo hsg and clamp...

Need some general direction - for my neighbors kid

Sorry about the lack of s/n etc. I'm flying blind here. My neighbor's son bought a money pit Mid '80's Bayliner cuddy 18-19' 3.0L OMC drive. He has a serious oil leak which I'm pretty sure is the oil seal in the front cover. I agreed to show him how to replace it - meaning I'd do it later this...

    Tires

Watch your fender clearance. Those larger tires will get closer, and may contact with spring jounce. Also your brakes will be less effective. Also as mentioned above, if the trailer is close to limit, or has been overloaded before, (severe bouncing, etc) the axle camber may be slightly...

And this is why we do our maintenance.

I had that puddle of lube in my new DS bellows, after a seal job last spring. And my suspicions are verified. "Assemble the oil seal into the oil seal carrier by pressing it with the lip of the seal facing away from the stepped side of the carrier" does not mean the pic below. If they would...

    Keep track of your shims...

...and write down your last shim pack measurements. I pulled my drive shaft assy this afternoon in pursuit of a puddle of lube in my DS bellows...after a new seal last spring. The out drive was in the garage, so I dropped the DS into a plastic bag to keep the lube from dripping on the wife's...

    Busted motor mount bolts

That's a tough one. It happened to my pal. He used Mad Props method. His broke off flush. He chiseled and beavered enough wood away to get a narrow jaw vise grip on the stub and worked it out. Then his oscillating tool to remove the rest of the wood plug. Then he expoxyed in a section of oak...

Alpha 1 Gen 2 Lower Seals

The top bar is an 'H' bar from a universal puller kit with its lead screw. Its jaws weren't long enough, so I made up the lower 'H' bar adapter to accept my slide hammer jaws. The screws are to provide reach. SHCS or long carriage bolts work. A heat gun/paint stripper may be needed to soften...

    Bellows Install

I forgot one special tool you'll need to remove the bell housing if you're planning on replacing the shift cable bellows, which I recommend. It can cause more leaks than the drive shaft bellows. $15 if you shop for it. It's a perfect 12 point match for hinge pin removal. I've read that a square...

And this is why we do our maintenance.

Last week was March-like warm, so I finally built my outdrive cart/stand. I had to back the trailer tires on a pair of 2 xs to get the boat 3" up so drive would clear the garage floor. My sore old back thanks to all who showed me examples of their carts. Good news is alignment is good. Bad...

    Bellows Install

The bellows expander tool can be found for <$30. The only other special tool needed is the drive shaft bellows retaining ring driver. $25. $55 is a bargain vs. the shop charges. You'll have to remove the upper shift shaft to use the expander tool. This may take a little heat to remove the screw.

Not a bad way to go...

Australian Shepard. Misnomer since he's an American breed. Developed by Basque shepherds who migrated from Australia to California sheep ranches in the late 1800 - early 1900s. Great herders, wonderful loyal, smart pets, as long as you can keep up with their energy. He's one of several Collie...
