    LiFePO Batteries ???

I decided to start the boat engines today. It turned out to be a bad idea . . . With the engines running the DC-DC charger is powered from the alternator(s) and charging the LFP batteries, and the alternators are also charging the starter batteries. On the PORT engine: I was getting some...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

Thank you 😀 . It looks like 'starter' batteries are the next frontier for the LiFePO4 market. I am seeing CCA spec's in the 1000+ Amp range. However, it does not look like there has been much to address the issues of alternator (stator) charging. 'Smart' alternators are better suited. I'm...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

A few final touches to the battery project. Boxes and covers in place. I relocated and re-purposed the battery labels. The system has been working well. The EPEver does have a mind of its own and does whatever it thinks best. :ROFLMAO: . . . Still waiting for a string of sunny days to...

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

You probably should get a copy of the Mercruiser installation manual. You can get yourself into a whole world of trouble if you are not rebuilding the transom to Mercruiser spec's in terms of thickness and 'flatness'.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

    Mercruiser spec is 2" thick . . . 2-1/4" maximum.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

I tend to agree with the comments that the transom may have been rebuilt (incorrectly) at some point. The spec's for transom thickness is 2", which we are not seeing from your pictures. Maybe take a look at some other re-build threads on this forum as some are similar in design to your boat...

    Marine Insurance

The Admiral does commercial insurance. Rates are up quite a bit this year. I just got my insurance renewal for the summer house . . . it was up about 40% this year. . . . almost :poop: myself  . The cars/boat have not gone up much. (AFAIK . . . never actually see the bill...

    Price

I'm thinking $6-8K . . . Outdrive work could be expensive, depending on what 'work' means.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

What's it look like from the outside? Either the transom is notched, or the area around the outdrive's transom assembly is thicker than the rest of the transom. It is a bit hard to tell from the picture . . .

    LiFePO Batteries ???

Yup, looks like 12.5v is the default and really meant for LA batteries . . . Just referring to one our favorite charts, it looks like 13.0 volts might be a good number, which would put the SoC in the 30-40% range as a recharge point. I would think that values much higher than that would be...

    DIY - Canvas Enclosure

Thanks guys for the kind words. . . I'm back at my sewing machine for the next few days. Hopefully I can make good progress on finishing things up.

    Sailrite Sewing Machine

Sure . . . @Jmunk - For occasional work the Sailrite LS machines are OK IMO. Not great, but OK. They are not a needle feed machine, just a walking foot, so top-stitching can be a problem when sewing through multiple layers of fabric. It sort of depends on what Singer model you have. I...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

    Better results today . . . The Inverter charger charged up the LFP's and actually went into Absorption mode . . . . . . No fault warnings . . . . . Here is the configuration I have at this point . . . . . . . . . Here are the other chargers . . . Solar (EPEver DuoRacer) . . . ...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

Greetings . . . having survived the Apoc-eclipse of yesterday, I will be away from the boat for a while (probably a good thing at this point). :ROFLMAO: Anyway, I am going to test the Xantrex charging this morning to see if it still produces the fault. The description of the Hi Batt Cut Out...

    DIY - Canvas Enclosure

Progress Update . . . The sun finally came out today, but I hear that it is going away for a while this afternoon  . Anyway, I got some of the canvas pieces set up for test fitting. . Looks OK. I made it bigger than the template I was using, but actually it is not too big at all, just...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

A bit frosty this morning . . . . . The batteries were at about 35˚F, so I'm letting things warm up a bit. I did check all of the settings on the Xantrex and made a few changes. . . (1) Disabled Auto-charging, and (2) Set the Hi Batt Cut Out (HBCO) voltage to 15.0v vs. the default of 16.5...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

For all those following along, here is the wiring change I made to the solar controller so that it would 'see' the starter batteries. Before (did not see the starter batteries) . . After (sees the starter batteries)

    LiFePO Batteries ???

That's a lot of questions. The Xantrex shows the over-voltage warning (Fault #49) The relay shuts of solar charging when the engine is running. (not really needed, but I put it in anyway) I'll see about battery temperature compensation. Not sure if there is an 'off' setting. . ...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

I've had success with the solar charger . . . even though it has a mind of its own :ROFLMAO: . I got the starter battery issue sorted; just needed to move the FET activation wire over to the solar panel input. Then the controller recognized the starter battery bank. At night the FET's will...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

Yet another update . . . I switched my attention to the solar charger (EPEver) (the sun has not been out for the past 3 days, so solar charging has been challenging. Anyway, I was able to set the battery type (BATT1) to LFP4. The solar panel voltage is pretty decent even in the clouds. I am...
