    Newbie boat owner

If you plan on keeping this boat, I would beg, borrow, hunt, search, scour until you find a factory service manual for it. I have found most of mine off ebay, and garage sales, but they are necessary for maintenance specs. Good luck.

    Gauges recommendation

In my years of boat ownership, most issues with gages have been corroded, dirty, loose connections !! Could count on one hand the actual number of "faulty" gages. Damaged and broken gages yes, but worn out or faulty was rare. If you want newer or better looking gages, then fine....but be...

    1957 Johnson Seahorse 35hp value?

Fewer folks are capable of repairing nowadays, we have become or are turning into a throw away society. With high labor costs and reduced manufacturing costs by not designing items for repair, the cost and effort to repair is to costly. While making repairs before selling may not be...

    1957 Johnson Seahorse 35hp value?

Our local repair shop guy stated that folks really like there four strokes, but fear repair costs if anything goes haywire. Maintenance us much higher and most that buy new also buy extended warranties out to ten years. Many are beginning to look at trading in there almost 10 year old motors...

Good enough RPM or not (92' Yamaha 130 v4 2 stroke)

Every inch in n pitch changes engine rpm by 200 rpm, every inch in diameter changes rpm by 100 rpm. Those are the general rules of thumb. Use your current prop at wot, and adjust accordingly.

Looking for my first boat and dwelling too much on the I/O vs Outboard question...

According to my local coast card officer, the mfgr is required to have enough flotation to maintain level flotation ( not sink to the bottom) on all boats under 26' in length. In today's law suit market, mfgrs will do what ever they can to not get sued. My neighbors 29' fiberglass is full of...

    Pressed-in Zerk grease fittings

People don't clean off the fitting before pumping in the grease. Crud on the zerk gets forced in with the grease and often builds up. Not common but does happen, wipe clean the fitting and be sure the nipple on the grease gun is clean before pumping in grease. I normally give a little pump on...

Here on make erie, there is enough room that we are not packed that tight, however....the long lines waiting at the launch ramps is another story !! Today, no one wants a fixer upper, it needs to run and run well in order to get top dollar. Finding service depends on where you live. Here in the walleye capital, find folks to work on older two strokes is easy and plentifull, not cheap, but plenty of these motor still around. What has been...

    1957 Johnson Seahorse 35hp value?

When it comes to older used motors, smaller up often brings bigger $$. Small engines are used as kicker ( spare/trolling) use or on small boats staying close to shore.

Good enough RPM or not (92' Yamaha 130 v4 2 stroke)

Sounds like you might be a little heavy on the pitch but not that much, however, you have to decide if it is worth the effort and cost.. In my 60 plus years of boating, I have always propped my engines to reach max wot with the lightest load....just me and necessary eguipment. If you have...

    tahoe 1950 trailer guide pole

Why change out the axle ? I suppose there are extreme cases, but in my experience, adjusting the rollers/ bunks and adding guides was all that has been necessary.

Looking for my first boat and dwelling too much on the I/O vs Outboard question...

I owned a 22' Islanders for over 10 years and the family loved it ! Porta potty space and a dry place to store stuff. Mine had the 140 hp 3.0 engine that pushed it to 34 mph ( gps). Fuel economy was great, my 25 gallon tank would last for over 100 miles. Yes maintenance is higher but if you...

    Recommended wood for trailer bunks?

I always used 2x4's from the number yard. Never carpeted the bottom, left that area open for water to escape. Used galvanized roofing nails to hold carpet on and plated fasteners ( had access to a metal plating service)...they usually lasted about 6-7 years, then had to replace them.
