    I would say the motor is a 1975 model.-------A 1973 is listed as a 50373R-----A 1974 model is 50473M

    If it is a single lever control , the shifter cable is the first one that moves.

    A 50 year old motor.----Some will argue.----Step #1 is a compression test.----Post the actual values here.----Then test charge coil and sensor coils with your ohmmeter.

    Way inside the float bowl.----Need to remove drain screw.---Then get it out and read the number.

    It was a 5.5 HP from 1954 to 1964.----That chart is WRONG.

    Operate the shift lever.----See the parts that move up there.----Then look for the bolt that allows adjustment.

    High speed jets have a number on them.----Are you sure you were looking at the high speed jet ??

    There is an adjustment for the shift function under the hood.----Fairly easy to see how that is done.
