    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

CEL does not come on, has never come on, so these faults all seem ‘noise‘ level, not critical

Quick Update . . . It looks like I have the 8 fault codes as being persistent, meaning they are still there/reappear after clearing. One of them is the gas cap probably not doing its anti-venting thing properly. Another is something about the radiator shutter mechanism not working properly...

I get a fault code, the description, and the mileage when it occurred. By example, here is what I am seeing for the 4 remaining engine faults. Not sure why the App (Carly) has not cleared them. .

Well, I did a couple iterations of clearing codes and re-scanning. So, this is the net of the current codes. Only 8 issues, down from 170 . . . the Carly app still thinks that's 'Bad'. What, no credit for good progress? :ROFLMAO: .

There is also a special sensor on the negative battery cable that senses if the battery is having issues. If/when the battery is below certain parameters, it tells the computer not to start the car. That was one of the first things I checked when diagnosing my no-start situation. All seems...

Yes, if/when you change the battery, there is a 'registration' process which basically tells the computer that the battery is new and to use a 'new' battery charging profile. As the battery ages, the charging profile adjusts since the battery typically does not charge as well.

Yup, you are probably right about the simple cars being a thing of the past, because they all have similar gadgetry. While researching my no-start issue, I came across this video of why used BMW's are so inexpensive. I have to admit, the car was not much money - I bought it CPO w/ 25K miles...

Yes, I don't bring it to the dealer, and glad I have not now that I see the number of codes.

Did that . . . It looks like the thing stores every little warning & fault code. I'm gonna try to erase the history so as to start fresh and see if the thing keeps having codes. The car runs fine and everything seems to work.

Even the driver’s seat caused a fault code

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

I had a problem with the AC/heat system on my car for the past 6-8 months and finally decided to fix it. As I was checking fuses (there is something like 150 of them), I managed to get one back in the wrong slot. All heck broke loose and the car would not start and proceeded to...

    Broken Skeg

Based on the picture, you did a really nice job breaking off the skeg . . . hardly any left. It may be a more challenging thing to fix given how close the weld will be to the gearcase.

    Anchor suggestions

Fluke anchors do not dig in very well in seaweed or rocky areas. You could try a Delta (plow) or a claw anchor. You might need to go up to a 14 lb. size range just to get a bit more reliability. As stated, adding a windlass, is a big project ($,$$$) . . . BTDT 🤪

    Flotation foam

A picture or 2 may help, but as Scott mentioned, you want to use 2-part urethane closed cell foam that meets USCG spec's for foam. 2lb./cubic foot density is probably OK, but you can go to 4 lb./cubic foot if you want a bit more strength. It may not resolve your issue with the rough water...
