How much slip does your prop have ?

Without Slip there would be no Thrust. How much is acceptable, depends on Hull Design, Weight of loaded Hull. If you drop Pitch and increase Diameter, Slip will get lower, but that likely will not result in higher Speed. On a Planing Hull, Slip will be at its greatest upon Initial Acceleration...

1998 Evinrude 60HP 2 stroke Slow Max Speed

'spark is good" is not an answer to my Question. A lot of people will take a plug out, ground it and check for spark. A spark under those conditions doesn't mean there will be spark in the cylinder under compression pressure. Air is a fairly good Insulator, and the more Dense it becomes the...

Mercury 75hp on aluminum 16’ Starcraft

The Nemesis has been a very good seller, at my Dealers Parts Counter, and the Parts Manager has told me that a lot of buyers say good things about it. Nice Place to go boating. I hope there aren't too many Rocks to hit Returning to Sea Level, you might need more than a 2" increase, 5000 ft is...

1998 Evinrude 60HP 2 stroke Slow Max Speed

Welcome to iboats Are all Cylinders receiving a Spark that can jump a 3/8" gap? Are all the carbs getting Fuel? That is critical, as No Fuel, or not enough Fuel, means not enough Oil for that Cylinder. Also who is this "They" you mention twice in the Post? The Tach would get its Signal from...

    1986 2 stroke 3 cyl major issue

If it starts leaking again after a while, the Cover has likely Warped. I had that happen on an inline 6. Cause was some water pump starvation do to over trimming the Engine. When went to the Dealer for the third time for the gasket, the Service Manager, ordered a replacement cover, gave it to me...

    Spring replacement?

That's your Opinion Torsion Axles. unlike Spring Axles, allow all Wheels-Tires to remain Perpendicular to the Road when only One Side is facing Bumps/Holes, with a Spring Axle, both Wheels-Tires are no longer Perpendicular. With regards to a lower Trailer, that certainly helps when...

Best years for 70-75hp Johnson/Evinrude outboards

Given a choice between a 3 Cylinder or a Twin of similar HP, I would pick the 3 in less than a Heartbeat, as its Exhaust Tuning would provide a smoother Torque Curve and better Fuel Economy over a wider Rpm Range than a Duce

Hard start but runs great once started

Can the Ignition System provide a Spark strong enough to Jump a 3/8" Gap, on both Cylinders? Upper Crankshaft Seal, if Leaking, can make for a cranky Motor

Best years for 70-75hp Johnson/Evinrude outboards

They may looks the Same, or Similar, but the Early ones were 49.7 Cubic Inch Blocks, while sometime in the 80s the Displacement was increased. Out of Curiosity, what brand of Motor are you currently running?

    Inconsistent performance 84' blackmax 150

Having a Bowl full of Fuel, doesn't prove a Cylinder isn't being Fuel A dirty/clogged Jet or Fuel Circuit inside the Carb can cause a Fuel Starvation.

    Inconsistent performance 84' blackmax 150

Again. it sounds like a Cylinder dropped out. Hopefully it is an Ignition problem, cause even though the Engine is strained by the higher load on the remain Cylinders, it still getting Oil. Fuel Starvation also starves that Cylinder of Oil. Of course a Fuel Problem could be Too Much Fuel, and...

Is this oil okay for my 1960 Johnson Sea-Horse JW-16, 3 HP, 2-cylinder? And is 16:1 the right fuel mix?

That has Friction Bearings and 50:1 just isn't enough Oil, The Ratio should be on a Decal on the Fuel Tank. The Service Manuals I have for that Motor say 24:1 While Present Day Oils are vastly Superior to the stuff used in the early 60s, the original Ratios are still used, with exceptions list...
