    Add cleat to trailer?

My boat sits on a mooring with 2 pennant lines that are looped around each front cleat. It’s been out there in 40 mph gusts when storms roll thru with no problems. If you never use a mooring you don’t usually think about your cleats but I check them before launching the boat every season.

    Shoreland'r Rebuild

In a choice between bias & radials for lower cost tires I’d always choose bias. I won’t buy cheap radials they are a lot more complex to manufacture and there more to go wrong. I have not had any failures with the Kenda Load Star bias tires & have used them for 20 years. If I wanted a radial for...

    Shoreland'r Rebuild

Nice work! Here you never see painted trailers the only thing that lasts is galvanized or aluminum The frame on my galvy Load Rite is 30 years old… PS I use those same Load Star bias ply tires. Great for local driving. I change em every 6 years or so…

    Ford 302 mechanical fuel pump

Yep, the OEM Carter is what I put on my V6. Original lasted 30 years!

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

It’s like modern vehicles…integrated fuel, ignition and wiring systems make modifications a lot more difficult. That’s partly why I kept the old boat this long. It’s big enough for my use in local bays, small enough to store at home saving a ton of money each year, easy to tow etc. options for...

Brass block drain plug leaking like a sieve

I have those adapter pieces in my block and my rule is if they don’t leak DONT touch em! I replaced the original t handle drain plugs with Merc hex head brass plugs to make it easier to remove.

    88 4.3 omc ignition switch

On the switch the terminals are labeled: B = battery— red wire I = ignition— purple wire S = start— yellow/red wire Some have a 4th terminal that is an accessory position, might be labeled A.

    Broken gear lube fitting

agreed but on some boats, you can't reach the V6 or V8 block drains without standing on your head!

Why I'm nervous boating at night...

Unless a clear moonlit night I think it’s very risky esp without good nav system with easy to read screen.

    Broken gear lube fitting

Good to hear they replaced the plastic. The number of plastic fittings in the easy drain system including the manifold is concerning to me. Would not want that failure prone stuff on my engine. I bet wedging yourself into position to do that job with the engine in place is a real treat. Even...

Why I'm nervous boating at night...

As much as I’d like to for the experience I don’t go out after dark; just too many hazards.

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Yep and a high performance Edelbrock intake manifold, although some of these have a brass liner in the cooling passage so they can be used with raw water cooling. My other motivation is to make winterizing less of a chore.

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

this is the same for both the GM and Ford engines, even though the Ford uses that additional adapter to adapt from the vertical water outlet on the Ford intake manifold You can see why when I install a reman engine one day, it has to have closed cooling. No more corrosion in the block...

    Favorite motor flushers?

Exhaust flappers or shutters. They are needed to keep water from rushing up the Y pipe when slowing down…

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

The way the water flows the stat housing is basically a gate & switching valve….cold water comes in from the impeller and gets passed thru the exhaust system until the stat opens. Once the stat opens then hot water starts to exit the engine via the exhaust and at the same time cool water from...

    Favorite motor flushers?

What I noticed about the Merc/Quicksilver ones vs the aftermarket rectangular muffs is that the rubber on the Merc ones is thinner & much more flexible to confirm to the shape of the lower unit….

    Favorite motor flushers?

I use the same ones they are the size not ones that really fit right and allow the impeller to prime quickly
