I think you have the old style switch not sure how much of an upgrade to the new style… if it requires new shift plate. if not local boat yard can prob find used...

    with a 2 bbl carb the 4.3 is rate at 190 HP at the prop, MPI s are 220 hp. As AD lays out see what is on there now or have it repaired get WOT rpm readings before tweaking pitch. if the boat is new to you spend some time seeing how it performs before trying different designs and pitches

I bought the swiveling bearing removal tool plus some 5/8" fine threaded rod, making the steel to go across the bell housing.... boat is 5 hr drive away and I just stocked up on outdrive gaskets was hoping to avoid buying...

    No running on the muffs will not show if any of the oil seals are leaking water into the gear case. Only way to tell is to take drive off , drain, and pressure test. There is a ton of info in the stickies and threads here on how to build a pressure tester and run the test.

    Yes if you have two RH props then no counter rotation. You should be good to go with the spare lower you have.
