'95-ish Glastron SSV195 carbureted mercruiser 4.3 starter solonoid wiring color codes

I would take a look at cap and rotor, they tend to get some green corrosion on the contacts. might look at the spark plugs if corroded from sitting

Replacement Exhaust Manifolds for Merc 496

given the age and use just replace them. My good friend who is in the Chesapeake middle to upper bay they are a wear item. When you remove the elbows there will be two passages you can look down in. There is a big diff between what you see in fresh only lake use and brackish/salt. if you look...

Replacement Exhaust Manifolds for Merc 496

Normally Barr is the only aftermarket one that gets OEM like quality marks. The dry joint is open at two points where it connects to the riser ? cant see in there? Was it a salt water boat? if it was definitely replace them, if it was fresh water use they will last the life of the boat...

    2004 Searay 4.3 Lt w stall

Do you know if this is 2 bbl carb version or fuel injected - serial number is great if you can provide it. I am guessing you have a fuel delivery issue or carb that needs cleaning or both. First as a baseline-I would do some basic checks on ignition timing and check condition of cap rotor and...

Merc 496 Mag Compression and Leakdown Results

Was the bilge full over the engine ? If you have corrosion on the pan I would replace it while out. I think what my buddy who is in salt water did was replace the pan prime and coat with rhino liner or some bed liner material. Get a new starter while its out. While the pan is off you can see...

Merc 496 Mag Compression and Leakdown Results

to quote Jackie Gleason- that's an attention getter ... I think you would be more lucky than right just bumping the starter. I suspect if the engine is out you have bigger issues than a little higher than ideal leak down, especially if the engine sat.

Merc 496 Mag Compression and Leakdown Results

I would not tear into it at all based on those numbers. Is it possible the 15 % cylinder was not at tdc when taken and valve was not quite closed? Would definitely run it then retest if it makes you feel better but I think you are fine with what you have

Sounds similar to when I started my gto 389 years ago , I was 180 out on the distributor. Thought the same thing worried about the lube etc , was fine. rechcek you are on compression stroke tdc not exhaust Consensus on current issues with flat tapped cams is the ones that lobes get wiped are...

You can hang it from there, I usually lay mine on the floor under the trailer can’t get damaged if it’s already on the ground

    I have a leak.

The wye pipe can corrode through, also if you loose a flapper they can lodge in the bottom of the wye and wear through. could be any of those things. Need to look with scope camera or pull the engine and put the boat in the water so you can get in and see what is going on

    Need advice choosing an engine.

Unless money is no object or you want to improve performance I would do a compression and leakdown test on it before deciding to replace it. If you are doing the work and have the ability to lift it, its really not so much work that I would let the fact you need to pull it drive replacing it...

    Gen1 oem impeller kit (frustrated)

its the orange thing just below the impeller in the pump kit shown above. I have usually found that going OEM for impellers and components is best

Are 88 to 95 4.3 mercruiser stock roller or flat tappet cams?

If the block is cracked and that is putting water in the oil , it will not show up on a compression test.

    1993 classic 25 ft. Bayliner

Agreed check the structure of the boat before you do anything. If the structure is solid then look at what is going on with the 5.0 and if you want to repower it. Yes a 25 ft with a 5.0 will be under powered. a 5.7 or 383 would do you better.
