Lake depth and how shallow can you run?

I personally wouldn’t run without a depth sounder. I use a Striker 4 GPS which was $100 and it’s actually pretty good. Set your waypoint when you leave the dock so that you can get back. I have the depth alarm set to 10’ as the lake I run in has depths from 1’-60’ with the median depth being 40’

Lake depth and how shallow can you run?

It’s not right though. It’s robbing you of some performance and it’s making your leg 5” deeper than it needs to be. 3’ of water is about as shallow as I’d want to go. I’ve got a 15” DF25A on my boat and have ran in 2.7’ when I was ontop of a sunken island and didn’t know it.

    Ok. Trailer time!

I do all my trailer registration’s online now and it’s never asked for an inspection number. They never have at the DMV either. Only thing I can think of is something in the metro area as their regulations are tighter. I do usually get an inspection anyway. But for sure nobody ever looks

    Ok. Trailer time!

Trailer inspection, and i think motorcycle inspection goes in the system differently and they are not locked to looking for an inspection in the system. 4 wheel vehicles go 2 consecutive years without inspection before they will decline re registration

    Points/condenser conversion kit

Nova will work only for a short time on an OMC coil. The voltage spike from the mag is too much for them causing failure. There was an older ignition module that was specifically for outboards but they were discontinued

Located my old family’s boat one week too late

it would be awesome if it happened. The only reason I don’t have a chief or an islander is I haven’t found one at the right time… but that boat is the reason I have 2 StarCrafts of my own.

Located my old family’s boat one week too late

A guy came into my work ( tire shop ) who knew who i was, and looked familiar to me. He asked how I was and everything and then told me he just got rid of the old red boat we used to have. Which was my dads iconic 1973 StarCraft chieftain that we restored when I was a kid. It had a tree fall on...

    1988 bayliner engine swap

It ‘could’ however you wouldn’t want to. The 2.3L was only used by OMC and for only a couple years, not even considering it’s like 110 hp vs, somewhere around 200hp depending

4.5hp evinrude outboard stopping above shift speed on a lake only

Without load, they run so smooth that you would never notice it not running on one cylinder. Or the cylinder could be weak and not fire under load

    Ok. Trailer time!

I paid $850 for a 2020 Venture VB1300 new from a dealer I think it was early 2021 when I got it. I can’t remember but I couldn’t repair the trailer I had for much less than it cost. Vermont would register a small trailer on a bill of sale

    88 omc 5.7 motor swap

I had no clue Davis built marine HEI. I can only imagine what they cost. I know what his stuff cost 10 years ago when I was looking into one for a 200 straight 6 Ford

    88 omc 5.7 motor swap

You will want good life vests and burn cream for later. If you survive the gasoline explosion…. NO bs either. An HEI is not ignition protected. Hopefully your built 350 is built to marine specs as well or you could pull water in with the wrong camshaft

New to me 2019 suzuki DF20

White smoke is steam. It could mean the cylinders are getting some water. I have a 2020 DF 25A and it doesn’t do anything like that.

    Early EZ Shift outdrive questions

Agree. I have a busted gimbal housing on my Offshore 18. I bought a running 1986 3.0L mercruiser , parts boat for $700. Only a couple hundred more than a transom assembly. And I got a good trailer and a couple seats. That formula is easy to repeat

    1966 Larson below deck repairs

Looks like a cool boat. Requires a total gut and rehab. Re creating the structure you see is probably the best. The way Nautilus did it, is basically a chop shop get it out the door kind of thing. No fiberglass. Single stringer and foam. I’ll work. It’ll look pretty but not for long…you will...

Beginner Buying Used Question Re. Sea Trials

Over a certain value it becomes like buying a house. Inspections, negotiations ect… if you’re getting something cheap. You basically have to assume some risk.

    1980 14 ft Mirrocraft 4 stroke repower

I run a Suzuki DF25A on a StarCraft holiday 14. Very similar boat and it’s fine. I had 40hp big twin on it. That was fine too

    Mini Excavators

A mini ex for clearing or improving a road isn’t really the best tool for the job. I think a mini can generally dig 10’ down max but it’s limited for gravel spreading and such. A SCUT or CUT tractor with a loader and a backhoe would be more versatile. Skid steer would be a possibility as well...

1984 omc gm 3.0l engine running rough?

If I we’re buying it, that little hiccup wouldn’t bother me, knowing that with a compression test I could verify it mechanically.. yes it’s a little rough but not bad

What hp 4 stroke should I look at to replace a 1985 evinrude 20 hp 2 stroke. 14 ft crestliner muskie aluminum boat

Fwiw the 30hp and 35hp are the same. It’s a crank vs prop rating that changed in 1986 if I remember right. You could do 25hp with just the carb I think
