Stumbling at Cruising Speed - OMC 5.8L

That’s how I do it; as long as you can easily get to the S terminal on your starter it’s the easiest and fastest way. I look at the faces of the points first to decide if I want to replace em or not. I think the set that’s in there is going on 8 years old! I have a couple sets of spark plugs...

    Is this trailer repairable?

I read something suggesting that galvanization isn’t as good as it used to be (EPA regs?) The frame on my 30 year old Load Rite is still solid….

    Is this trailer repairable?

That looks bad, you know I have perused a few trailer company catalogs and the pieces you can't buy, are the frame rails. For example you can buy just about everything else from a company like Load Rite (tongues, crossmembers, brackets etc) but not that. I guess they don't want you building your...

OMC 5.8L Screeching, Power Steering Pump?

PS learned this the hard way once. The alternator on my 07 Grand Cherokee started whining a bit but still charged just fine. Not a sound from the belt! About 3 months later the battery light comes on & I get about a mile down the road towards home and one by one all the electrical stuff shuts...

OMC 5.8L Screeching, Power Steering Pump?

I would loosen each belt and spin the pulleys by hand you may have an accessory that is close to seizing up. Better to find it now. Also a bent or flexed mounting bracket may have mis-aligned the pulley. Lastly look at the harmonic balancer while the engine is running, is it wobbling?

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

That’s odd but that site is pretty inactive, maybe no one is monitoring it regularly. I’d try searching posts on that all in one gauge design then. It was a lousy idea that a lot of people had trouble with and IIRC there was a company making custom panels to replace that panel into which you...

Trilux 33 or Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier for outdrive/prop/etc

PS I only use the spray in the inaccessible areas in the transom mount. The rest I brush on 2 coats. I find this more economical because the spray is thin too thin to really work.

Trilux 33 or Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier for outdrive/prop/etc

Hey Charlie I have wondered about that as well because Trilux is crazy expensive and has been the last few years. It’s all I ever used but when my supply of it runs out I’d consider switching…

5.0xl/V8 mer. Where do I start?

Here's an old pic when I still had the big heavy Delco style starter, I replaced that some years back with the smaller PMGR starter, much easier to R&R.

5.0xl/V8 mer. Where do I start?

My boat isn’t bad, but on some you can get at it easier if you remove the exhaust on that side.

Volvo Penta & OMC did use Holley carbs on GM engines, especially after 1990 when Rochester stopped making carbs.

5.0xl/V8 mer. Where do I start?

That carb has a lot of crud in it, much more than mine did so yep you need a good soak in an ultrasonic cleaner or soak it in old school carb and then (put on goggles first!) blast out the passages with compressed air. One area that is a problem is the idle air tubes these can be tough to get...
