Trim pump not working in down position

Just rebuilt my originals. I had a couple of spares from fresh water regions. As long as you can get that cap nut off, it's not a hard job. The other issue on a salt water boat is getting the hydraulic hose fittings loose. One did not want to budge, so instead of making a problem, I took off the...

Awfull time launch & retrieve roller trailer

That’s true it would be cheaper to have a bunk over time because even if the bunks rotted and the carpet wore out it’s a lot cheaper to replace those than rollers. However a bunk trailer just would not work at our local ramp except around high tide; too shallow. The majority of trailers here are...

Awfull time launch & retrieve roller trailer

I’m greasing them 1x per year. I have replaced all the rear seats ones but still have some of the originals on the front.

replacement Chevy engine for volvo penta

You should go on the Volvo Penta parts website and put in the model # for your engine. Then get the parts #s and see what it cross references to. A couple of aftermarket parts suppliers you may come across are Sierra and Mallory. There is no automotive distributor cap that’s going to work on...

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Yep that car style instrument cluster I’ve never seen so it’s hard to say what setting is correct but it wouldn’t be hard with the engine running. Just hook up a tach/dwell meter to the engine & check it against the instrument panel tachometer or rev counter as you say… Good catch on the...

No clearance between starter bolt and flywheel housing on 4.3L 175hp

The ARCO starter I put in my boat a few years ago had different bolts with a taller hex, made it easier to install, in addition to it being smaller and lighter by a lot!

Trim pump not working in down position

That’s a habit I’ve had for many years when I had a shallow mooring spot; I’d trim up all the way & then just lower it enough to get the rear anode & end of the trim rams under water…

    OMC 4.3

Looks like someone converted it to a Merc 2 piece exhaust system, these originally came with the OMC one piece batwing exhaust. Mine had those, eventually I had to switch to the 2 piece system and used the ones that were used on later OMCs and Volvos. Here's the old style OMC batwing exhaust...

    OMC 4.3

You should be seeing more water exhausting from under the transom mount. I used to have those muffs and they are too stiff for the pump to suck in adequate amounts of water. I'd quit using those and get something better. I now use the Merc/Quicksilver round ones with the metal rod clamp. What...

    OMC 4.3

Also before running it make sure your outdrive is full of gear oil. Dipstick is in the top cover. Remember the gears are all spinning any time the engine is running.

    OMC 4.3

You are aware that you have to hook up ear muffs & water hose to the outdrive before starting, correct? Or else you’ll burn up the rubber impeller and overheat the engine & exhaust system….

    OMC 4.3

If your T&T works, but no guages come on and no engine crank, I doubt it is the 50 amp fuse. I bet it's the ignition fuse in the fuse box. Same thing happened to me about 8 or 9 years ago. Especially if you have the old style fuse box with the glass fuses. The metal end pieces oxidize and then...

    1998 4.3 GL Head Replacement

This is one of the issues with raw water cooling on an inboard. In salt water you get flakes of rusted cast iron that can clog drains and even in freshwater you get sand and silt that can block drains. Rodding out those drains and making sure that everything drains is very important. I have a...

    Flooring Repair/Rejuvenation

Well it can be done but it’s a LOT of work…when I replaced the deck in my boat 15+ years ago I threw that carpet in the trash since that’s what causes wood rot by holding in moisture if you are in a damp climate. I had a ‘glass shop gel coat the whole deck in non skid gel coat and it still looks...

    4.3LX & Weber Carb Service

I think there’s confusion about what Weber carb is on this Marine engine…its was made by Weber for Merc and Edelbrock but it’s really just an updated old Carter 4 bbl design that was used in all manner of Mopar products for many years. Not a Weber on a high performance European car!

    1998 4.3 GL Head Replacement

Sometimes the blocks crack on the inside, where you can't see it till the intake manifold is removed. You'll know more when you get the intake off and can see the block area in the cam valley. These engines were used in Chevy Blazers and S-10 pick up trucks so those heads should be easy to find...

Check ignition fuse in the fuse box. The old tabs & fuses get oxidized and then things stop working.
