Oil type for 2.3L 1988 ford engine

Yep that's what was recommended here... When you change the gear oil in the Cobra, make sure to do it the right way!

Oil type for 2.3L 1988 ford engine

In the Cobra you can use Mercruiser/Quicksilver High Performance Gear Lube I've used it in mine for 20 years with good results.

Out to lunch Gear Oil Prices

I checked on the Pennzoil Marine & it doesn’t look like they have it on their website. Just gear oils which are probably fine.

Out to lunch Gear Oil Prices

The Premium is for 75 hp & under; the High Performance is for over 75 hp. I have used the High Performance gear oil in my Cobra for many years with good results. Local price is about $17/gallon. Used to be $11-13 or so. Pennzoil also makes a marine gear lube for lower units I’d check if that’s...

    Replacing 1978 351 c.i. V-8 OMC Stern Drive in 1978 Starcraft 21' ...recommends (?)

Agree 100% I like a well tuned Quadrajet; after a cold start they run very well. Even better is a pre Vortec engine that can use a simple trouble free mechanical fuel pump. For a few reasons electric pumps can be a headache in boats….

    Replacing 1978 351 c.i. V-8 OMC Stern Drive in 1978 Starcraft 21' ...recommends (?)

    1) The OMC stringer system, does not match up with anything else ever built 2) the way it is designed, you may wind up having to reinforce the transom since the stringer drives supported all the weight of the engine/drive system on the engine stringers. Later OMC drives (Cobra) Merc and Volvo...

    Volvo 4.3L Pre-Vortec to Vortec

A 1994 should be a roller cam but no balance shaft, IIRC Adding the Vortec heads shouldn't be difficult, I considered it but wanted to keep the manifold heated choke for my Quadrajet, which I could not do with the Vortec because it has no exhaust crossover. However if you're running an electric...

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

OB vs I/O the only way I’d still have an I/O is if it is pre cat converters and if it had EFI & it acted up I’d convert it to a 4bbl carb & low pressure electric pump. And, with good engine access. Otherwise if you look at the parts prices for modern I/Os, combined with poor access, there is...

    Starter

That or ARCO Marine makes nice starters & alternators. The main thing with marine starters is keeping water off of them. They are spark shielded but not water proof! If you can’t figure out their catalog call ARCO someone does answer the phone & tell them you need a starter for a marine Ford 5.0.

Are you sure? That model number comes up as a Ford. Distributor in front = Ford Distributor in back = GM/Chevrolet

    Starter

Looked it up; it’s 5.0 Ford with a 2bbl carb, 1989 model year. So you’re looking for a small block Ford marine starter. I like ARCO for starters & alternators.

    Starter

The engine is a 5.0 2bbl carb but you need to know is it a Chevrolet or Ford engine. And if a Chevrolet is it the staggered bolt pattern or straight across. If a Chevy you can use the correct PMGR starter they are lighter smaller & spin the engine faster.

    Penta 4.3 GL in saltwater?

ARCO Marine makes good quality marine starters & alternators; not the cheapest but good. I have both on my boat…. Barr Marine makes good quality aftermarket exhaust at a reasonable price; also have those on my 4.3 V6…. As far as motor oil you can use straight 30 or 40, 15/40, 20/50 or even...

    Volvo 5.0Gi winterizing

that is mysterious, maybe some crud got into the threads, might need a thread chaser if you ever get it out. One nice thing about most later OMC/Volvo manifolds, they are the same casting for each side, and you have threaded holes on each end. So if the rear drain plug is stuck, just remove the...
