    Evinrude 50 impeller

Gee, Rob, you asked for substitutes for the OMC stuff, and we have given them. It sounds like you don't believe us, so use whatever you want.

    1992 XR6 150

Gee, I use a single cable teleflex steering system on my speedboat. I have not had any issues. The issue with cable and pulley system was that the motor would pull and overpower the springs I never saw that, although I had a fat fifty motor. I have not seen that on a single cable system.

    Outdrive oil leak..

I have no idea how motor oil would make it's way there, however, motor oil should be exclusive to the engine. Check the driveshaft bellows for gear oil. I don't know exactly how it would get to the shift shaft, but outside of some sort of a crack in the OD casting...

OK, for extra credit, what former Dallas Cowboy used to hawk the Workmates? I guess that advertising worked on me. I had one but gave it to mi BIL. I wonder if he ever used it.

    Outdrive oil leak..

What kind of oil is it? I presume gear oil, but you need to verify. If it stinks like rotten eggs is it gear oil. I presume your OD is Gen 1? If so, the only source of gear oil is the seal between the upper and lower gearcases. maybe the gasket has failed? Alternatively, maybe the yoke...

    Evinrude 50 impeller

I expect that RTV would work. I use a plain old vice with two pieces of wood to clamp the skeg. Not as good as a workmate.

    Engine wont Start

A '73 Merc 850 should be battery-powered CDI ignition. It should have hot spark, regardless of cranking RPM, however, the choke requires good cranking speed to achieve a rich starting mixture. The timing marks should be on the cowling support. Set the motor to TDC and remove the distributor...

    Marine Tex on Alodine?

The OP is looking to use either Marine-Tex or JB Weld. Both are epoxy fillers. I recommended that they be applied to bare, clean aluminum. Once that is done, he can prime with a self-etching primer, and paint of his choice. I have not used the primer you have recommended, however, if you are...

    Evinrude 50 impeller

The Permatex Aviation gasket stuff is the one with a brush on the cap. I think it is indeed #3. I use Marine grease because it is resistant to saltwater. Any decent grease would likely work. I usually use high temp RTV silicone, but silicone caulk works fine. Gee, I never said copper water...

Force 125 Trim Motor working, but I think it should go higher

OK, I was too lazy to look it up, and since it is a Mercury PPT, I would think, I thought it had a good chance for one of those things to be the issue. Not going up enough, w/o a trim limit switch, might mean low on fluid, or that is all I can think of at this moment. Gee, even my '77 Merc PTT...

    Marine Tex on Alodine?

You realize the filler is epoxy, right? Also, last I checked, epoxy is significantly stronger than primer.

    Evinrude 50 impeller

I use substitutes on my '98 Johnny. The gasket under the wearplate gets Permatex Aviation instead of OMC Gasket Sealing compound. Ditto for the SS cup that fits into the pump cover. The oring between the ss insert and the pump cover gets 4 drops of silicone caulk/RTV instead of OMC Adhesive M...

125 HP outboard stiff steering @ high speed

Look for loose motor mounts. Under motor load at high speed, these can move and cause binding. Does trimming down make it better or worse?

    Finding a leak???

Boats flex when under power. That flex could open your seam more. Can you have someone drive the boat, while you look for the leak? You might try to mark it with a crayon or something that will write underwater.

    Marine Tex on Alodine?

So you want to put a stronger material (epoxy putty) over a weaker one(primer)? I cannot imagine that is a good idea. Suppose the primer peels? You can likely remove the primer with some acetone and a rag.

    MerCruiser update

Gee, storing 4 gal of antifreeze over the season is a drag. I am not storing 35 to 55 gallons of the stuff.

Force 125 Trim Motor working, but I think it should go higher

A couple of things. Most PTT systems have a trim limit switch. It can be adjusted to allow the trim up higher or down lower. Also, most PTT systems have a manual release valve. If you have one, make sure it is tight. If loose, the motor can usually drop. The crowleymarine site should have...

    MerCruiser update

Mike, I will guess that the single point drain feature started causing more freeze damage, due to clogs of rust in the drains. I say this because I had to poke the drains pretty thoroughly to get them to drain. If you simply open the single point drain, I would expect only partial drainage.

    MerCruiser update

If you have a raw water cooled sterndrive, rust will build up in the drains. When you go to drain the block and manifolds, you must dislodge the rust for proper drainage to occur. V-engines have 2 drains on the block and at least 2 on the manifolds. There is also the P/S cooler and the raw...
