De rigging a 1966 Super Seahorse Deluxe 40hp?

Ok, that makes sense.. And the harness that runs up to the ignition switch should be one complete harness right? So that will terminate from the junction box to the dash.

    kicker bracket small area transom

You won't need 10hp. 5hp will troll that hull just fine. I would put 5hp on a bracket, so that the powerheads don't clutter up the transom so much. You could clamp a 5hp to the transom most likely. Looks like there is enough room

De rigging a 1966 Super Seahorse Deluxe 40hp?

I know that the wires under the cowl need to be un plugged first, since it is a pre red plug motor, or do I keep it connected on that end and disconnect from the front? This motor has the charging box as well, being its's a Deluxe with charging circuit although I don't think it works.

    Towing with/without Overdrive

That's a 5R55S, which dates back to the A4LD. I would for sure pull it out of OD. Towing in OD would get the trans a bit warm, and then they tend to have solenoid problems that you will feel with a reverse delay and eventually get an extra neutral when you loose reverse

    Towing with/without Overdrive

Agree. Use tow/ haul if you have it... IF you just have an overdrive switch, for sure switch OD off... And if you have an older Dodge, keep OD off all the time and the trans will last forever

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

I did figure out that the 25hp and 30hp differences is only the ECU and a throttle body restrictor vs a spark arrester. $600 in parts + voiding the warranty most likely. I would have gotten a 30hp, except Zuk does not make a 30hp short shaft.. I won't void the warranty so I'll leave it as...

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

The issue was not knowing how good it was without knowing what to look for what wasn't, if it wasn't 'good'. It starts almost instantly, I've had it in the bucket running for hours but it does start to skip and pop after a while, but clears right up with a little throttle. Seemed to be fully...

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

It was never my intention to troll with the 40hp. At idle it is way too fast. trolling bags would help. If I kept that motor I would have hung my '97 Rude 4hp as a troller/ spare in case

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

Just afraid of it loading up being 2 stroke. My dad had an old 50hp, wouldn't idle that long before it loaded up and died

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

Agreed, it may not go slow enough, but it will idle for hours unlike a Big Twin 40hp, so a couple trolling bags will get me the 1.5-1.9mph for trolling lake trout that will land me fish. I have a 1997 Evinrude 4hp. An awesome motor in it's own right ( I have well under $200 into it running...

    1965 StarCraft Explorer Rebuild

Also considering that ratings all changed from gross hp ( crank ) to Net hp ( prop ) by 1990 across all brands. Johnson/ Evinrude by '85 I'm pretty sure. An old 650 probably does not make 60hp at the prop. A 40hp would make about 35hp. A modern 30hp 4 stroke would likely be just fine. I JUST...

    1965 StarCraft Explorer Rebuild

It's not uncommon, but not recommended. A 4cyl 650 does not weigh much more than a 4cyl 500, so it's not that big of a deal with a vintage motor My Grandparents had a 1963 Custom Craft Sea Ray bought new, and they had it repowered with a 1964 650 at the dealer 1 year later, so that it would...

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

I just ordered a new DF25ATS3, 10' control cables and a tach with engine function idiot lights for $4,700 I'm going to trade a little speed, for a little quieter operation, reliability and fuel economy. Also won't have to have a trolling motor as it should be able to slow fast enough

    1965 StarCraft Explorer Rebuild

50hp Honda will be far too heavy.. An Evinrude/ Johnson Big Twin 40hp was probably the intended motor when it was new. They weigh the same as a modern 4 stroke 25hp

    2021 DF25 control cables?

Are the control cables on a 2021 Suzuki DF25 the same as what was used on a 1966 Johnson Shipmaster control connected to a '66 40hp Big Twin?

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

I agree it's a great motor. I do have to eventually get another lower unit end cap. Someone destroyed the one that is on it, and gooped it up with alumi weld. It holds and the skeg is still good, but it looks horrible. Also the choke solenoid quit working, so the manual choke is the only way...

Albemarle 24 - EFI maps and fuel return

Water is hard on the sensors. A blown head gasket in a car can take them out from the steam

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

My 40hp Johnson Super Seahorse Deluxe is a great running motor, but being from 1966 and has had some float flooding troubles ( sunk cork float ), makes me cross my fingers when I hit the key and I won't go out without aux propulsion. It does start almost instantly every time, even getting...

I think I'm another story of a bad boat purchase

With a functional 4.3L, I would rebuild the boat.. Gonna guess 19'? It will cost ~$5k to rebuild it + your time ( Pro would be $100 hr at least ), but the boat market is so far flipped right now.. Covid made boating more popular than it's ever been but it also created supply chain issues and...

Tell-take won’t start pushing water until warms up.

well if you do have a cooling problem, change thermostat and impeller before you fry your motor and create more problems..
