Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

That I can’t say, I have only had the old fashioned boat with the carb & mechanical fuel pump. However I do know a few people who don’t bother with that procedure on EFI boats. At this point I would be more concerned that the water in the oil problem is truly fixed. Because if not you have some...

350 Mag Bravo 3 with poor power steering assist

perhaps wear particles from the P/S pump migrated in there I have the old style one used on OMC and Merc with the separate control valve. These can be rebuilt, because the same actuators (with a different cylinder) were used on both Corvettes and unibody Ford products back in the 60s and 70s. I...

Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

Also, water in the oil does not always show up running at idle with no load, running it on plane so there is a load on the engine, is the true test. This way you know for sure that this was the cause and it's fixed rather than finding out start of next season.

Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

I think it’s better to run it once to burn the moisture out of the oil. Don’t think you need to change it again after that

Or put it in the water & run it till it’s good & warm. Up on plane for a while…

Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

The main thing is that your threads & bolts are clean enough that they thread all the way in easily. If rusty you will encounter resistance & the torque wrench will read the 33 ft lbs but the actual clamping force on the gasket won’t be adequate to prevent leaks. When I replaced the cyl heads...

Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

When you install the gaskets keep in mind that proper torque is very important. I would use a thread chaser to clean the threads for the bolts that thread into the manifolds, and clean the threads on the bolts itself. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions about how to install the gaskets and...

350 Mag Bravo 3 with poor power steering assist

I have heard there is a place that rebuilds the Volvo units down in Fla called 5 Starr marine they might do Merc units I guess you could call & ask. New is about $1000 reman is about half. Hope you have good access that is not an easy job. I replaced the one on my Cobra & removed the exhaust on...

Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

Not sure about the possible crack/casting parting line. I would be cleaning the sealing surfaces up the best I could and trying it again, like Scott said. BTW, my exhaust system used in salt almost 5 years now does not have that corrosion you see where the manifolds and elbows mate. Since you...

Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

The sealing of the rings is not 100%. I had a similar problem with a different (likely) cause. I my case it was leaky head gaskets that allowed water to seep into 2 cyls after the engine was shut down & cooled off. That put a fair amount of water into the oil over about a week. When I took it...

Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

To check the manifolds with acetone you have to remove them from the engine & remove the elbows. Be careful because acetone is very flammable. You can clean up the mating surfaces with a mill bastard file & then check them for flatness with a straightedge & feeler gauges. Should be less that...

Fuel water separator and fuel filter on 3L

The issue with the clear plastic bowls is that they swelled from E10 gas and that caused leaks & some even fell off. They were redesigned and that’s no longer a problem. If someone leaves their boat in the water where moisture accumulates in the fuel they can hold a lot more water that the...

    Mechanical fuel pump gph question

I don’t know what ignition system you have but I’d be curious about your total timing advance….

Fuel water separator and fuel filter on 3L

BUT....we still don't have an opinion one way or the other....is the more expensive Racor with the bowl, worth the $$$? I'm going to keep using the standard filters I've used all the years I had this boat because I haven't had water related fuel system problems, but I know people for sure who have.

New (2020) Alpha One Gen 2 wont come off

As far as the need to pull the drive each season, if you have the Merc coupler and can get at that grease fitting & can grease it, I would at least check the bellows very carefully for small cracks and as soon as you see any pull the drive & inspect the gimble & ujoints & replace all the...

Fuel water separator 2000 200hp Saltwater series 2 stroke

If you’re not seeing any water & the gas is clear & clean I think what you’re using is good enough, I go thru the same thought process of using something “better” but it looks like we don’t have a “problem” to “fix”! Lol I do the same thing the gas from the filter goes in the lawnmower! BTW I DO...

    Winterizing Twin Cobra's

The way I look at it….raw cast iron & steel rust VERY fast in damp climates. I spray the leaf springs on the trailer with corrosion x several times a year; my springs never rust to bits like so many do here. So I fill the engine & manifolds. Still running the original short block & intake...

    Winterizing Twin Cobra's

The great debate 1)Some drain & leave it dry 2)Some drain & fill with AF to reduce corrosion of raw cast iron exposed to air I do mine as in # 2 Manual drain poke drains to make sure it really drains. Disconnect bottom end of J hose up front & let drain. Put gasket sealer on threads of drain...
