First pass. I'd let the boy apply the stripper. I donned some gloves to scrape. Immediately upon starting I got a snoot full of vapors, stopped and put on my respirator too. Big dummy.
Rolling now though.
Am planning on this cleaning sequence.
Stripper.
Mineral spirits.
Acetone...
Back on the job! I checked the primer this morning and it was definitely tougher than before but I'm still not satisfied. So we're stripping it all off.
I've been watching fishing and boating shows this morning. Nice. And the other guy is watching the same thing. Cool.
Windows! Unlike the closet where I was before.
And my efforts yesterday failed too. I think the humidity was just too high at 88% or so. And I may have applied the primer too thick in some places.
We're supposed to have perfect painting weather over the next few days so I'll keep trying.
This coming Saturday will be 6 weeks...
Rainy weather here today, not ideal for painting but we did a little more testing.
I sanded the console with 400 grit on my palm sander which helped but not enough. So I had the boy strip it all off. While he was doing that I decided to try something different and we stopped using the console...
Well, I figured it out. It was operator error!
And still is!
I was spraying too far away and moving the can back and forth too quickly. I have absolutely no idea why. :noidea: I do know better. But as a result of my error, the paint was partially drying in midair.
This...
Back on the job after finishing lunch. No more dehydration and crashing blood sugar for this guy! Definitely do NOT want to do that again!
Watermann - did you use the same method for the second color?
Yeah, I was thinking that just one coat of SE primer would be required. Until I read the can. That's why I went with three coats.
I was spraying about a foot from the metal.
SE directions.
These are the directions on the Filler Primer.
I rested during the day today and went out at 6:30 with the boy to pick up where we left off yesterday. And I am concerned. :uncomfortableness:
This console experiment is teaching me things. Ugh.
This is the primer after 3 coats. Note a couple of missed and flaked off spots.
So I wet...
I messed up last night. Bad. Really bad. Health crisis. Totally my fault for not paying attention to what was happening with my health. So it snuck up on me and bit me. My bad. Should have gone to the ER but didn't. And my wife is not happy with me! :nono: :yell:
But I...
Yeah, there were tornadoes in parts of FL yesterday but thankfully, none around here.
The weather is nice again this morning, cool at 55 degrees when I got up although the humidity is still 99%. And my injury seems to be much better today so when it warms up a little more I'll head out to the...

Still plugging along here. Got holes filled, ground down and sanded this morning. As I was going along I found still more very small holes up near the top of the gunnels on the inside. Arghh!
Sometimes less is more. I decided to go with the smallest version of the KF bird logo...
Back to making progress. The weather was absolutely spectacular for working outside today! :D
Grind down the JBWW, clean, sand. That was the process. Spent a couple hours this morning by myself doing the gunnels inside and the topside of the bow and gunnels and got all the grinding done...
