    Oof, looks like the floor is still in the way. You *can* probably reach from the front, but it will suck. Have some spare plugs handy for when you drop them in the bilge and a magnet won't pick em up. Good luck with the spark plugs.

    Yup, meant to follow up on this. I knew it was an auto pattern, makes sense that it's Ford. The newer 470s (3.7) do have an integrated solenoid with a slave, the earlier ones don't have the slave. Thanks for the correction.

    That doesn't make sense to me. Map temp should be exactly the same temp as what it is measuring, plus maybe a bit because of increased under cowling temps. Some auto pcms will lower fuel charge to account for lower air density at higher temps, though I think that that's more heavily weighted in...

    The reliable reference for every aspect of maintenance and repair is the official Merc service manual for your engine. No matter how good the advice I may get from other sources, I ALWAYS cross reference with the manual

    Timing a 2 stroke '03 25 hp merc?

    Never given this engine much love, because it keeps running despite abusing it. I'm trying to set up the (remote) shift and throttle cables and set the timing. I'm embarrassed to say that I just realized I've never set the timing on a 2 stroke engine and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong...

    That wasn't their job... Most of the damage was electrolysis. I replaced *literally* (I think) every positive connection on my boat. Just finished the nav and anchor lights yesterday

    Also learning (again) what happens when you depend on unfriendly nations for your energy supplies. Energy independence is a national security issue as well as environmental. And poor mercruiser, you think they're losing money on these parts? Maybe epa or whoever could mandate that emissions...

    You can always roll the dice...a couple of seasons ago had some knocking, pulled the drive and had a slipped u joint clip, joint was banging on the drive shaft nut. Could have been bad news if I continued to drive it.

    I mean, that's always the wrong answer, right? I wouldn't trust greasing them to stop the knocking; damage has probably already happened to the joint.

    Most likely you're right, but hell who knows. Just threw that out as a "what else can kill propulsion". If a V8 can run with a busted crank, I can see a world where the gears are shredding and moving for a few seconds before smoothing out completely.

    The hole shot is actually fine, except when trying to get me out of the water. Boat loaded, no problem. Certainly this should have more power than the 3.7 that I replaced. Again, I may still have some HP on the table from the intake and carb that I need to investigate, but I'm close enough now...

    Spotter is already in the bow. I can tell you for sure that more weight in the boat doesn't help, regardless of where it is.

    That ain't it. I'm even leaving the cooler at the beach. Short double high wrap deep water start takes a lot of oomph. I can do it, but would like to not have a wall of spray in my face for 20 seconds. So wanting the ideal prop for that; I'm OK sacrificing top end, and don't want to be cruising...
