5.0xl/V8 mer. Where do I start?

Look at some of the resto threads on here. Floor usually rots after the stringers and transom which are the structure of the hull. I would be drilling 1/4" holes down low in stringers and transom also in ski locker. Willing to bet they come out mush. Do this before investing any money getting...

Replacing lift cyl power trim hose, how much heat to use?

I know but how do you quantify that??? Mapp or propane is fine. Start with a little try to get it off, add more if needed. Aluminum doesn't take much to expand. As mentioned if you are concerned try a heat gun first. Probably 150-180 F will do it? This is just based off of using a bearing to...

    Tire Recommendation, Japanese Sedan

I had play in a CV joint on my mother in laws Civic , would clack when going from coast to acceleration, jacked it up no play in suspension, if you held the center of the axle and turned the wheel it would clack, reversing wheel direction made it happen ever time. Other side had no noise, axle...

    Assembling a 4.3 MerCruiser v6 - Parts check needed

I would call the seller and say it binds up should not bind up at all. If you put it on a credit card you can always dispute the charge. Bottom line if it binds up something is wrong machining wise. Had an issue one time where the big ends of the rods when resized were at an angle to the rod...

You may need some good heat and some Kroil or other goo penetrating oil applied days before hand. you also can cut the line to get a box wrench on it

    Bad hesitation at 1200 rpm

Do you get a good accelerator pump shot? Would be thinking the of idle or transition circuit may be clogged. Given the age might be worth rebuilding setting float level etc Have you tried adjusting idle mix screw out (richer) to see if it smooths this out? Willing to bet at factory they were...

    Kicker on a CC?

If you go in remote places sure it makes sense for back up. Im not sure of fuel or lowering the main engine hours it will pay for itself. Downside is it will clutter the stern some and you need to be able to pull it up or tilt up when at speed. Back in the day lake trout fishing with my...

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

Agree with others - have never seen a fiberglass gasket. Wonder if it was cloth that resin never kicked off. Read the resto forum to see what others have done. Certainly given how you need to bond and sandwich the transom wood to the outer fiberglass there is certainly the opportunity for it to...

yes that is the correct intake - vortecs always have 8 vertical bolts on intake with the webber carb it should bolt up as I dont think any of them used heated chokes.

    Need better hole shot

Here is a thread on the rev limiter on an MPI engine. Would assume you feel a miss same as carbed but cannot be sure. Per the thread I believe yours would kick in at 5150 rpm. The crab style ignition caps on the mpi are known issues but usually has a miss. Last summer my neighbors VP MPI was...

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

drill holes in stringers as well. Usually if the transom is gone so are the stringers. May only be the back part near the transom may be all of them. Would also look at the motor mount stringer and in ski locker if there is one.

get the vortecs and a vortec intake for the power gain. Moght as well after doing all this work... I bought a handymans special that PO cracked and did not reuse any of the castings that could have cracked. Just not worth the risk. There must have been some water in there diluting the AF. I...

    Need better hole shot

What engine other than 5.0 do you have ? serial number if you have it. On a merc the carbed Thunderbolt V systems have a rev limiter too. It will be felt as a miss, you can't miss it... it drops ignition from cylinders then rpm will drop a tad, will keep repeating until you pull back. Dash...

4.3l mercruiser no start when hot

that would point more to heat soak on an ignition component. Starting fluid lights off easier Test the spark with an adjustable gap tester when it wont restart and ohm the coil Have you tested spark at plugs, post 1 only mentions spark at coil to distributor. could be loosing spark in dist or...
