this page has links to install drawings of many merc products- any of the 4.3 will have the motor mount locations. The as long as existing stringers are wide enough glassing in mount blocks is no big deal. If they are too close widening them may push you towards the pod.

    Assembling a 4.3 MerCruiser v6 - Parts check needed

Cast is fine and what is standard in GM marine engines for many years. I believe they were hypereutctic but not 100% sure. Yes there are better pistons out there but bottom line keep detonation at bay and they will be fine.

Doing a Full Removal 1986 Mercruiser 3.0L 140 hp Engine Question

i think when I looked at building a gantry when I did mine I think I needed the lifting point to be around 10 ft maybe higher. So 2ft is probably too low. remember the legs have to go under the boat/engine. Depends on how high the gunnels are when you are on the trailer. Have seen folks...

    Assembling a 4.3 MerCruiser v6 - Parts check needed

Webber & Edelbrock are carbon copies. only diff you may see Merc used a 3 stage step up rod on some of them. Eddy parts will fit. IF you search the threads here you will find some threads where people did NOT find that the eddy jet kit for 4.3s worked well with Vortec heads. I'll see if I can...

Shift shaft seal on alpha gen two

Thanks I have the seals (OEM Merc), Issue is I cannot get them to make a seal in the plastic housing (23-815921A20). They have leaked between the seal OD and the plastic, used permatex #3 and let it set up 8 hrs still bubbled on pressure test. The old seal was very hard to get out new seals...

    3.0 tap/knock

Can tell from the keyboard. It’s making noise so you need to go through and measure all the clearances vs spec. If you don’t have the mI do eters would take it to some one who does

Alpha 1 Gen 1 oil fill hose

Mercruiser offered a kit to add the drive reservoirs to gen one drives. Very rarely seen them in service. The 1991 and up gen two had it from the factory. You can run them without. Only advantage is having it if the input shaft seal goes you loose drive oil into the bellows and you may not see...

Even better if it’s on a jack plate , play with dropping it some yiu can look at pics if you google it. Cav plate ( lower of the two plates) should be even with bottom of boat. If you run at higher heights or are on a power cat you can run a prop made for areated water like Revolution 4 , or...

I did this years ago on a 1966 mercruiser. If I recall correctly I just hooked up the orange battery wire, tapped off the other two and disconnected the voltage regulator

Shift shaft seal on alpha gen two

Gen 1 & 2 are completely different setups gen 2 has a plastic housing for shift shaft seal and speedo tube connection . I bought the seal was leaking between OD and housing. I bought two seals. I used permatex 3 this time instead of red loctite gasket maker. Seems to be holding pressure now ...

Shift shaft seal on alpha gen two

Just to close this out. The seal was leaking between the metal sleeve and plastic housing. I had put a red permatex gasket maker around it but that’s where it was bubbling … not sure why it didn’t fail the original pressure test, but certainly makes buying the whole p,attic housing with the seal...
