    If you're confirming your earlier post of saying a vacuum leak does not increase rpm then yes, you really do not know how a naturally aspirated engine works.

    New distributor? My guess is main or fuel pump relay. Possible fuel pump. You say you have no spark but have you verified this? Key on engine off does fuel pump run/prime?

    You can set the idle to whatever speed you like. Spec calls for 6-700 in gear. That means in the water, in gear. You need a load on the system for you to adjust properly. Boat is intended to work properly in the water. Can't see too many people sitting in their boat on the trailer loving life...

    Yeah, we're talking boats here. Mainly sterndrives which take more straight consistent torque and power than most ordinary trucks.

    Splined shaft length should not matter as long as you retain the inner transom plate which will mate with any mc1 gimbal housing

    Ebay, mercury website or local repair shop MCM manuals are hard to come by these days, especially old ones. I have seen oem reprints of 1, 2 and 3 but it's a copy of reprinted pictures and literature. FYI, #1 covers all mcm/mie engines and drives for the appropriate serial range

    There are mc1 transom assys that use threaded pins for the bellhousing with most recent available senders. Look for late 70's early 80's mc1 assys

    This is the route I'd go. Plenty of alpha one/mc1 transom assys available on ebay and craigs in the right market. Would definitely inspect carefully before purchase and expect to replace all bellows, senders, etc....
