I doubt the motor will idle on 2 cylinders !!------Pistons must be installed correctly.-----There are 3 port pistons and 3 starboard pistons.-----And they are marked with " UP " or " exhaust side "
Yes----Driveshaft just slides out and the short will slide in.-----I would take that 78 lower unit apart and inspect / reseal it before installing it.----Unless the seller offers a warranty.
Had a fellow call me for a flywheel for his motor.----Had no spark.----I said " you don't need a flywheel "----He drove 4 hrs to bring me the boat / motor.-----He had installed new expensive parts.---Turns out the first new part he installed was bad.----Easy fix here.-----So yes even new parts...
Any pictures / model # / serial # of this tracker?----- Is there a head gasket on this 2 stroke 40 HP ?-----Why would full throttle " kill " an engine ?
In my area you can do your test / qualify for a " pleasure craft operators card "----No practical test required.----Just have a book / assistant for help and send in your $$ for the card.
Most Force motors were sold on entry level boats.----Doubt there were many tiller models sold.----I do not know what tools you have or level of ambition.-----I think a tiller from another brand can be fitted.
