1150 power trim and tilt hoses

Bolting the unit to the transom can cause rotting where the bolts break the fiberglass, and may pull out if you hit big waves and don't sit the unit on the stainless steel part of the hose. Just connect the hoses to the outlet which put them closest to their ram - make sure that there's slack in...

    Rebuilding 1982 Mercury 50HP 4 cyl.

You can put the crank and pistons in by hanging them from the ceiling above the block on a chain with hooks; you can lower the assembly one link at a time while squeezing the rings in with your fingers on each piston. A dealer might do the final insertion for you reasonably priced. Here's a guy...

67 Mercury 650 complete rewire Killswitch question

No you shut the motor off by cutting the power to the white wire - the red wire should still have +12v; if you disconnect battery from the rectifier while engine is running you can damage the rectifier.

    Can't shut off 1977 1150

On that motor the white wire on switchbox (4 terminal side) carries +12v when motor is running, to stop it the switch cuts off the power 0v so the switch must be wired wrong but don't ground it.

    Mercury 650 Rotted Trigger Wiring

Yep it's sparking; Also look in the faceplate for the plastic pointer - I'm posting the timing instructions you'll have to use a pen in the 1st cylinder and turn the flywheel until it reaches TDC then you align the small arrow on the dist. pulley to the timing mark on the flywheel.

Removing the top cover from 1958 Thunderbolt Mark 55?

There is no such thing as a 1968 Thunderbolt Mark 55 - there is a Mark 55 built in 1955 a serial Nr. will help define it - do not keep trying to undo that bolt it holds the starter together; the reason the cord won't retract is because the spring or mechanism is broken or stuck. Do the nut back...

    1150 Merc Float problems

The spring is for holding the setting as fuel flow changes, are you setting the secondary lever measure from the cap (not the shoulder) and upside down. The primary to secondary lever measurement is 1/4" right side up - there has to be a spring in the float sticking up 3/32". I don't know which...

Be careful of the metal tab that is over the copper disk don't try to lift it up if you break it off the unit is done - there is a terminal block under the epoxy and I managed to get to 2 terminals on mine; here's how it works:

Since you have the pump already - stand the motor body up and let the oil drain out then flush it with a mild solvent (Dawn dishsoap) remove the tank and check for crap (watch out for the little ball at the top of the shaft) but don't disassemble the control valve assem., the end cap with...

Lower unit stuck in forward gear after changing lower unit seals

Fig. 2 is looking into the gearcase without the internals, the only way to check is to remove the bearing carrier and gears, and if its wrong you have to remove the shiftshaft bushing and shaft then install correctly; if the cam is upside down it will just stop at the point where you are trying...

1975 500 Powerhead removal and general work.

Isn't the fitting between the 2nd and 3rd cylinders and the outlet on the lower cowl? If you have to remove the powerhead make sure that you can get the PH to exhaust plate gasket (Nr. 7) because it will be damaged from removal. I would remove the LU because it might have a bearing pre-load pin...

1973 Merc 650-spark at coil but not at plugs. Wires check OK.

It sounds like the trigger is faulty, any play in the distributor is no good, the shutter disk could destroy the pickup here are the instructions for removing the shaft - the rotor disk might transfer to your other distributor but a slot has to match with the brass contact on the rotor (you have...
