Assuming it is an alpha gen 2 Check the top of the seal carrier #19 they can get deformed from heat over time https://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercruiser-sterndrive-parts/alpha-one-genii-1998-and-up/0l100040-up/gear-housing-driveshaft-standard-rotation

lower unit oil seeping out of water intake

Most likely the vertical driveshaft seal below the water pump. not sure which drive you are working on or what age. You can pressure test the drive to see where it is leaking . oem parts for seals and water pump impeller are best. If your drive is older like mine might be worth doing them all.

383 FWC - Strong gas smell while idling, lower compression in one cyl. Any thoughts?

90 psi is a dead cylinder do the leakdown test to verify where it is going.

Mercruiser 5.7L competition ski squealing noise when driving under load randomly

That would be my thought based of the very limited video. Would try and listen with a mechanics stethoscope on flywheel cover to see if that can be confirmed. Would also make sense it is dampner plate if noise occurs under heavy load.

1988 Bayliner Capri 2.3 ford engine

This is good advice. Look at the resto threads. Likely your transom stringers and floor are rotten. Yes you can fix it but it’s a huge amount of work a significant chunk of $$$… all on a small old boat. Unless it has sentimental value prob not worth the effort. I did a project boat 8 years ago...

That will be a tough one as Yammie drives aren't supported here I thought there was a guy named ken in FL who seems to be the go to for Yammie drives @Scott Danforth or @Bondo do you know who is the guy whose name comes up on yamaha drive questions ?

MerCruiser 5.0 will not start/run in idle mode (Carb Engine)

200 is getting hot. as others mentioned redo your compression test to see if you have a variance when when you did it before. Also fix the issues that led to overheat if not done. Pressure test of cooling system you apply air pressure to the cooling side of the engine. You need to plug off...

MerCruiser 5.0 will not start/run in idle mode (Carb Engine)

Probably have two problems off info given. Not sure what model or year 5.0 and what carb but assuming it is a mercarb 2 bbl 1. carb either needs adjustment or rebuild then adjustment. First verify choke is opening when warmed at fast idle. Would try turning idle mix screw in and out to see if...

    Flotation foam

Most go from the inside so there is no exterior fiberglass work like fairing and gel coat.you certainly can go from outside in, can paint the outside with automotive type finishes . Pay attention to transom thickness spec Scott gave you can glass the new transom from both sides to prevent rot...

using a gm 181 marine head on a industrial 181

The marine and industrial engines are pretty much the same. Big changes to 3.0 was around 90 or 91 went to one piece rear seal would think this would influence your oil pan fit Also around same time head port configuration changed I think one is large port one is small port intake has to...

    EMP Impeller kit

You need a gasket ( thin metal plate is a gasket) on both sides of the flat wear plate. Did you new one come with a gasket for each side of plate. My original pump in my drive had a rubber or paper gasket on ether side.new merc impeller kit i got had the metal gasket you show. At some point merc...

Dissembling a Mercury alpha 1 SE drive

I found removing my bearing carrier was best to soak with kroil and be paitent applying some heat to outside of gear case. Pulled right out with a good size gear puller after getting the case warm enough to expand. It was enough heat to just start bubbling the paint.

    MerCruiser 3.0 MPI Electrical Short

The longer I do things like this the more I tend to stay with oem parts, unfortunately a lot of junk out there. you can usually ohm test a coil. Attached are specs for my t bolt coil, you should be able to find similar specs for your est coil .

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

Dependss. If you can rebuild the distributor which isn't hard if the shaft is not buggered and the advance plate is not corded then get a good core and rebuild it. If you cant get a decent core get a rebuilt one. You still need to reuse your 4 cylinder shaft for the rubbing block no ? Might be...

    Alpha Gen 2 Swivel Shaft

Yes there are two ways to do it. pull the engine - which depending on the boat may or may not be easiest. If a typical bowrider, if you know what you are doing is an hour to pull the engine. you can access the steering lever by using a kit like this cutting access holes in the gimbal ring...

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

You would not need to change anything on the EST to work. You just need to lock it in base mode. This is done to lock out the advance built into the module for setting initial timing with a timing light. If you leave it in base mode there will be no advance from the module, which is what I...

    3.0 MPI distributor? Specs needed

Looks like the 3.0 mpi uses a delco est which cannot function without the module which will advance it… you could lock it in base mode my always supplying 12 v to i think the white wire with the timing shunt… then set your intial and only timing.. you could use any of the delco style kits out...

2007 mercruiser 3.0 Rust by the looks of it on side of block cover

That side cover is for the lifters and pushrods. Wire brush and paint but sitting under a cover can get condensation in there. there is not a casket leaking there, they don’t spend a lot of time painting them. If it makes you feel better run it on the muffs and look for water leaking. use it...
