    Did you clean the carbs? Looked at the fuel pump diaphragm? What happens if you pump the primer ball?

    You bought a cheap primer ball. Evinrude does not use hose clamps on theirs. Go buy a quality one.

    What is your float level set at? Where did you get the carb kits from? Did you soak the carbs and clean them correctly?

    Does Spark jump a 7/16" gap? What is your compression? Fresh gas? What about a link and sync? Do you have a factory manual?

    Take the lower unit off and see if it frees up.

    What motor did you have that them tips were blackened? Because mine all run a nice tan color.

    What is you compression? Have you tested the stator or anything else? Stop revving it in neutral before you wreck it. Does spark jump a 7/16" air gap. Is your fuel fresh? Any water in it? Oil injection checked to be working?

    When was the last time the carbs were serviced? Is the primer in good working condition.

    There is a service bulletin for those motors. Your plugs should not be black all the time. Black plugs are indicative of a rich running motor.

    The trim sending unit is usually a plastic switch that goes up and down with the motor. A continuity test will help you test that. It could also be your gauge.

    Check to make sure the new stator is not binding first. If that is ok then pull the lower unit off and try it.

    I did not say they were good but there are 2 different versions. The design 1 has a bushing and design 2 has bearings. Mercury sells that lower unit brand new for around a $1000. I am also pretty sure that the older bushing can be replaced with the newer bearings.

    What temp is this motor running at? If you have water coming out the exhaust holes you more than likely have flow through the motor.

    You may have bearings in that lower unit. Their was a design change in the later models.
