a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

Other than the fact that the fuel pressure is too high for a carbed engine, it is possible that on the Edelbrock carb one of the floats can hang up against the inside of the float bowl. I recall a post on this forum about this very problem. The Edelbrock has 2 floats one on each side. Is this...

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

That’s definitely the joint venture drive made by Volvo; parts are the same as the Volvo. Get a new prop that’s going to cause vibrations. The drive not staying up is likely a valve inside the trim pump. That’s a problem I haven’t had yet though so can’t help on repairs. One thing I can suggest...

    Changing my boat gauges.

If you have one of those old original fuse boxes with the glass fuses check the tabs for oxidation; I had this problem one year & none of the gauges came on & engine didn’t crank. Fuse was not blown it was simply oxidation. Did the old gauges work right?

Brake drum and bearing cap questions

If a trailer has 2 3500 lb axles and only one had brakes that’s only rated at being able to stop 3500 lbs. yet the trailer in total could weigh as much as 7,000 lbs. A pair of 10” brakes on a trailer that size & potential weight is frightening.

Water in Oil (Again) Head Scratcher

That 11 ft lbs always seemed too loose to me yet I know that’s what GM specified. The pre Vortec was 30-35 ft lbs. Just seemed odd for it to be 1/3 what the pre Vortec was. Was there that much a difference deference in the gaskets? I never had one problem with the gaskets on the pre Vortec

15 psi should be enough that’s what most automotive systems use

Water in Oil (Again) Head Scratcher

I would air pressure test the cooling system see if it holds pressure over time & check the flatness of the sealing surfaces of the manifolds & elbows.

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

What tells me that it’s definitely a joint venture product is the sticker on the engines that says manufactured by Volvo Penta Marine of Lextington Kentucky. Yours is labeled an OMC Cobra with an OMC model # and OMC parts numbers. But, the VP & OMC parts were identical and at one time the part...

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

The 94-98 Cobras built during the joint venture years are exactly the same as the Volvo SX of the same year the only differences are color (SX silver, Cobra Charcoal Grey) and one has an OMC model # the other has a Volvo model #.

Brake drum and bearing cap questions

I have those too (super lube) one thing I added is a bearing buddy cap which is an extra barrier to keep out water.

    Oil Analysis Poor Sample

Yep thinking back, I did this test even before I had the overheat, tested it in the water and I had bubbles. And, I was getting sodium in my oil report back in 2011, so the head gaskets were starting to leak then, but I didn't really put 2+2 together, or maybe figured that I'd wind up replacing...

Extra cost(s) breakdown of storing boat in a saltwater marina?

The alu outdrive paints have gone way up, a qt can of Trilux used to be $80 now it’s $130, spray can of Trilux used to be $35 now it’s $58. Anodes I paid about $65 aftermarket Engines? If not closed cooled as Ted said you get about 15 years of trouble free use. I’m still running my original 1988...

Brake drum and bearing cap questions

The hole is probably to adjust the drum brake shoes not to let water out. The seals could have been leaking a long time & you wouldn’t know unless you pulled the drum to inspect. With drum brakes you can’t see if the seals are leaking like on disc brakes.
