    one other thing to ask the owner is the oil setting. That determines which oil to use. If I was buying it I would take it to a dealer and have them set the pump as rich as possible. then run the best oil you can find XD 100

    Then they may not be the same block the first 9.9 were on a 13 cid block I think or 10. The 15 came out on the 15 cid block. Some work on your part is required.

    3 sets of points on that motor. Same as used on Mercury and briggs and stratton. Easy to find. Vintage coils are expensive you could try Laings outboards.

    You will have to compare the blocks. That was right around the time the 9.9 moved up to the bigger block. If the 9.9 is the smaller block I wouldnt use it without at least changing the high speed jet. Even if it is on the bigger block may still need the jet will have to look up some parts.

    They never had electric fuel pumps. They are listed in the service manual but that was around the time McCulloch bought them. I believe they nixed the electric pump.     Look at the middle of the bore and make sure it doesn't narrow in the middle.

    You have to replace the pistons. Do not replace just rings on that motor and you have to do all 6. But pull the heads first.

    You might be able to put an OMC coil on the laminate. Are you sure the coil is bad? Those motors had excellent coils and seldom went bad.

    Those motors are impossible to work on without a factory manual. The excessive oil could be a stuck float in a carb or a leaking accelerator pump.

    You did not get a factory manual it will be specific to your serial #. Call a dealer.
