1990 4.3 block and 1995 heads, which rocker tightening specs to follow?

In the old days we’d go to the junkyard get a Chevy valve cover cut off the top half of it & temporarily install it that would keep the oil from going everywhere. Hard to do with marine manifolds in the way. The variations in parts with the 4.3 is why I just stuck with the original casting #...

1990 4.3 block and 1995 heads, which rocker tightening specs to follow?

The one I posted is right from my OMC shop manual which in turn is right out of the GM shop manual. I think you can trust that!

I'd follow the ones I posted, (#14) they worked for me.

Need Advice on Replacing Hubs, Drums and Brakes on Boat Trailer

Dexter owns just about everyone these days....last time I checked they owned: Tie Down UPF Kodiak The last set of drum backing plates I bought were Tie Down, these came with a better design wheel cylinder that uses an o-ring seal instead of the boot that tends to hold water and cause corrosion...

Need Advice on Replacing Hubs, Drums and Brakes on Boat Trailer

The drums don't look that bad, unless the races are all pitted inside. I have used zinc coated drums and galvanized backing plates for close to 20 years with good results.

2007 8.1 Gi converted to rear-mount closed cooling

My vote would be to see if you can adapt Merc dry joint manifolds, they have the best design to keep out water, and can be used with full closed cooling.

2007 8.1 Gi converted to rear-mount closed cooling

now....if you have riser blocks....I wonder if those could be tapped for your top coolant exit? So your regular gasket goes between the manifold and riser block and the block off plate between the riser block and the elbow?

2007 8.1 Gi converted to rear-mount closed cooling

I have VP style manifolds on my OMC 4.3 and asked about this (full closed cooling) on this forum and Scott explained that you can't have VP style manifolds on a full system because you have to have 2 fittings at different heights on the manifold to allow coolant to flow in on the bottom of the...

    Warning!

I do my own. They aren't rocket science lol. I remember years ago when we were kids and these carbs were on nearly everything GM made, we were told by the old timers that a Quadrajet was too complex for beginners like us to fool around with. Same with Autolite 4300s on some Fords. The Holley...

    Warning!

DO NOT buy any of that trash. If you want to have a safe boat and your old carb is beyond rebuilding, there are options yes they cost money but quality and safety always do. You would be better off taking your carb to a hot rod shop and get it rebuilt by people who know what they are doing, or...

Standard Horizon 890 charger makes interference in Standard Horizon 1400 Eclipse hard mount when charging.

Thanks will try that out today. The charger is the one that came with the HX 890. Might call Standard Horizon tech support and see what they say. The hard mount radio and the charger from the hand held are both powered off the fuse box under the dash.

Engine just clicks but no start

This has fooled me 2x with oxidized old fuses that read 12v but didn’t allow enough amperage to flow to make the component work. Remember how many amps it takes for a starter to crank over an engine. It’s not simply 12 volts!

Standard Horizon 890 charger makes interference in Standard Horizon 1400 Eclipse hard mount when charging.

As it says in the title I have a Standard Horizon 1400 Eclipse hard mount VHF & a Standard Horizon 890 mounted in the charger cradle. When I plug that into the 12v power outlet on the dashboard it makes interference in the hard mount radio. It is noticeable at first but in a few seconds it...

Engine just clicks but no start

Also forgot to mention a connection can be good enough that you can measure voltage present BUT not good enough to allow enough amperage to flow for the starter to engage & turn the engine. If those battery cables are original they could have all green corrosion up inside the insulation. When I...

    battery charger question....

Yes I used 2 different digital voltmeters

Engine just clicks but no start

Even if the connections look fine you have to find out if the main lug terminal on the starter is getting 12v with the battery switch on and the red/yellow wire terminal is getting 12v when the key is turned to start. If not you need to go thru all the connections including the engine ground...

    Should I be worried

While it does seem a bit short it does have a pair of 6 lug axles so it should have a pair of 5200 lb axles. Why not making up a set longer bunks that go all the way to the end of the transom. I don’t think the boat can go much more further forward due to the position of the tongue. First thing...

2001 4.3 vortec oil is milky

Those engines sometimes crack on the inside of the cyls which will be visible when you pull the intake. The intake itself can crack right under the thermostat housing and the intake gaskets can leak water in if they were over torqued. The torque specs for the Vortec are much lower than those for...

2001 4.3 vortec oil is milky

Might also want to think about adding at lease a half (block only) closed cooling system. Reason being one of the biggest drawbacks to inboards vs outboards is that inboards do not self drain like outboards. You forget once to drain when freezing temps hit & you’re done, new engine time. The...
