Many. Many threads on here about people's regrets about not sea trialing their boats.

    Alpha one gen 1 questions

3.7L, assuming 17-20 ft bowrider would have been 1.84, but double check s/n if you can.

    Water coming into bilge

Exhaust bellows is always wet. IDK off the top of my head what/if any sealers are supposed to be used on the y pipe...

    Alpha one gen 1 questions

S/N on the drive. If unreadable, we can probably guess correctly based on engine +/- other info (prop pitch, what boat it's on)

A couple of quick Edelbrock ?'s

OK, so called Edelbrock tech. The coatings in question that would be damaged are EnduraShine and Permastar. Not sure that the performer carbs had these coatings, but mine is long gone if so. The guy I talked to recommended not dipping the carb at all, but just spraying carb cleaner in the...

    Surging / losing rpm

Throw a timing light on your coil wire. You'll be able to see if your ignition is momentarily cutting out, and if it's before or after the distributor cap. Agree that it looks like a wiring problem. Can also try wiggling wires when underway to see if you can reproduce.

A couple of quick Edelbrock ?'s

Got my 1409 back from the machine shop after a quick 4 month job to remove some snapped venturi screws. About to rebuild: 1. I've seen around these parts that the Edelbrocks have some special coating that will get stripped by carb cleaner (@Rick Stephens ?) and to use simple green. I only see...

    4.3 Mercruiser 94 vs 98 interchangeability

Hmm. Never gave this much thought when I swapped mine. I was under the impression that the ignition curves were similar between the TB IV and V (with the exception of some pre-programmed "routines" in the V). I thought that most of the special sauce in the V was due to advancing the ignition...

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

New thread for this problem. First decent weekend since the fall, with the goal being to get on the water by Memorial day. Where I'm at: 1. Carb screws snapped off when I was trying to rebuild it, dropped it off at the machine shop around thanksgiving, I'm still waiting to pick it up. 2. Rebuilt...

    No Sparks

You literally now have 3 threads going (with a conflict on what problem you're having) where you are either ignoring or not reporting the results of all of the troubleshooting steps being given to you

    Merc 4.3 Vortec Conversion

There are electric choke upgrades for the weber. Yes, you'll have to recalibrate your carb. Merc has a 3 step needle IIRC for the weber, not sure if they sell replacements still--last I looked, I couldn't find the specs for them. Otherwise the Edelbrock springs/needles/jets should work. A few of...

Mercruiser 4.3 Vortec Backfire and no start

I'm not convinced your timing is correct still (might be the fault of the direction of this thread...). Looks like you're getting an occasional fire. Those compression numbers should start the engine, though it would be worth seeing what's going on in #6. You've obviously screwed with the timing...

    Mercruiser 3.7 / 470 Holley EFI Sniper.

Right. With my plug reads, I may be running richer than I need to be and wasting fuel even though it's running well. Only real way to do this with better than "horseshoes and hand grenades" precision is with an 02 sensor.

    Mercruiser 3.7 / 470 Holley EFI Sniper.

I might do that (we're going to continue to first work on getting it back on the water after its unfortunate attempt at becoming a submarine). I didn't have any luck at all with plug chops, and while they were nice and tan after the season, all that really tells me is that I'm in the ballpark...

    Mercruiser 3.7 / 470 Holley EFI Sniper.

I'm sure the electronics are light years ahead, the self tuning is cool (don't know how the O2 sensor would hold up, or if it's just for initial tuning and then runs open loop). Trying to tune a carb on a boat has been frustrating for me. Don't know anything about the fast systems, though it...
