    It's getting old and plastic does break down over time unfortunately not fast enough so it should last a while. I guess it comes down to how long you need the boat and if you have the resources to replace..

    I'm going to guess that in some cases a bad bearing could seize and possibly spin in the carrier. The one in the pic I posted shows possible signs of that. IDK.

    Yep keep digging, if anything structural has rot it needs to be replaced in it's entirety not patched and most of a boat is structural.. good luck with your project

    No, the outdrive needs to be removed to replace it. That said you might be able to adjust the cable enough to work. Look in the sticky threads for adjustment of shift cable.

    You might just need an adjustment to get you by for a while. I'm not savvy on how to post links. Achris has a good video posted here.

    I make sure my batteries are full up at bedtime and 4 months later I wake them. So far so good .

    Glad to help, I've always loved tearing things apart too. After seeing how the bearing is designed I've decided to grease it while it's running. There are 2 holes in the race and I suspect the balls cover them alternately so a slow feed of grease should do well.

    You might want to try a trailer dolly. HF has A light weight unit for 70 bucks.

    I took an old one apart notice the small hole in the outer race, it must line up with the offset channel in the carrier.

    You could use a chain hoist at each corner with straps. It's slow but works good. I painted the bottom of some big boats using it.

    You may just need to lube it. But when pushing around the drive way set the jack height perpendicular to the ground or a bit lower..

    Yep they had to keep a close eye on manifold pressure and adjust the throttle accordingly, especially at low altitude..

    Those cutouts are how the bearing is inserted into the carrier.
