Charging system on Mercury 25 hp

That's not correct. I think you misunderstood what they told you. I can only say that the ignition and charging are 2 different systems so many times...

Charging system on Mercury 25 hp

You said you had the system in the first diagram, which looks like it has an unused stator. The white/green wires are from the ignition stator. Again, totally separate from charging. If that's all you have then you need a kit with the stator and rectifier (or voltage reg, not sure what the...

Charging system on Mercury 25 hp

Weird, that first diagram doesn't seem to do anything, just has an unused stator. If that's the case, all you need is the rectifier from what I see

Charging system on Mercury 25 hp

Ok, there isn't a functional difference between red and black stators, and they control ignition only. I don't see any of the optional kits in the manual, but the stock electric start system looks like the second option; I'm not sure when the other 2 would be used. The charging system is...

Charging system on Mercury 25 hp

Don't unplug things in a cdi system while running. The trigger doesn't provide power, it just tells the ignition module when to fire. Do you have the system in the second diagram, and the first diagrams are add ons? Lemme take a look at the diagrams...

Drain Plugs for 1999 Mercruiser 4.3 Thunderbolt 6 cyl

I'm 99% sure this isn't necessary. The Merc manuals don't mention it, it doesn't look like the other drains, there's a *ton* of space in that cavity, nothing to break even if it freezes. And the water doesn't stay there when you pull the t stat hose. After pulling the hose that cavity has been...

Knowing when to say when on outdrive

Nothing you said makes you need a new drive. If it turns freely, drain the oil and see what comes out. Pull the top cap and check that the gears look ok without rust. Pressure test the drive. If all good, change the impeller and oil and save your money for a nice captains chair.

    My boat sank, part II

I know I can do it. No, I meant I'm running out of steam and want to drink some beer this weekend 😄 This has been pretty exhausting, and really short of replacing everything, it'll be suspect. Sucks that I just replaced/cleaned/fixed everything a year ago hoping to have something I wouldn't have...

    Mercruiser 165 shift cable bellows

If the shift cable bellows is bad, the others probably are as well. Water in the bellows means water got to gimbal and u joints. Doesn't matter if they were brand new. Check and make sure it's smooth. Same with u joints, grease everything well and take a chance if you'd like. Shift cable should...

    My boat sank, part II

Do I need to pull the hydraulic lines? I don't think I have it in me to flush the whole system in addition to everything else that needs done.

    My boat sank, part II

Will do. I already had written them off. I have a spare harness that I won't be selling No. Wonder what I'd get for a 35 year boat that was probably less than $10k new?

    My boat sank, part II

Well, we're off! The tide actually came in much higher than last night. Apparently the tide predictions are as reliable as the wind. Me and another guy were able to just push it off with little drama (actually, the drama was when the bilge started filling up until I realized it was all the water...

    My boat sank, part II

I have too...but when I'm not there I don't like leaving it on the mooring in unprotected water. And this was purely my own stupidity from my own design.

    My boat sank, part II

Well, that was a giant fail. Tide rolled in, but the boat is higher on the beach than I realized; there's a high spot right at the jetty, and the boat is on that. The water's only getting a couple of inches up the stern. It isn't budging. Also realized I can't start the boat even if I wanted...

    My boat sank, part II

Cleaned up the battery terminals, replaced some wires. Charged the battery, for some reason it seems ok. Actually managed to get power to the helm (full voltage even) and was able to get her to spin using the key. Pretty hesitant at first, but picked up speed. OP gauge reading 50 psi at the end...

Finally ready for a new prop

My boat just sunk (see my thread in the mercruiser section), so the prop's on indefinite hold. But it's an '01 block (vortec, roller lifters, cam) with a 4bbl carb. Michigan motorz lists the same engine as 225 at the crank. Dang, definitely not feeling that.

    My boat sank, part II

Apparently my last post was removed because of profanity, though to be fair if there's ever a time to use profanity it's when your boat gets knocked off a lift, deposited on a jetty, and swamped, and then you get a speeding ticket returning from walmart. But we'll keep it civilized this go...

Finally ready for a new prop

Previously had a 3.7l 170hp, replaced last year with a 4.3l that should be good for 220hp. Was hoping for a big jump in performance, which unfortunately didn't happen. Dry weight listed at 1150# on the sales flyer fwiw. Had run an alu 3 blade 23p on the old motor, transferred it to the new. With...
