Help with Battery issues after stereo install

If the wiring is as you described, and there are no breaks in the wire that could short it to the main wiring, I can't see how they're related. But like I said before, you can disconnect the negative for the radio, start the boat, measure voltage across your battery to make sure you're not...

MC-1 Back Together, Temp 175 Fahrenheit?

No. You have a 160' stat, if it's running that hot at idle something's wrong. But your gauge for sure might be off. Double check with an IR gun or a thermometer radiator cap or something.

5.7L 1984, Rough idle at start up, then ok after a minute or so

You're not looking for a bad coil, you're looking to see if the wiring to the tach/tach itself is intermittently killing the spark. The coil if bad would be worse warm.

All good points. I hereby retract my previous thoughts.

Help with Battery issues after stereo install

What do you mean "before the power got to the headunit"? The new head unit is doing the same thing?

Disconnect the fuel line at the tank, plop it in a can. I'd swap the water/fuel filter (buy one and bring it with you) and flush the line by disconnecting it at the carb and running the fuel pump for 30 seconds or so

Maybe it runs on an external tank anyway. Maybe it's a 2hp with an integrated tank.

Help with Battery issues after stereo install

For whatever reason, yellow is usually battery and red acc. That said, clearly something is wired wrong somewhere. I'd try disconnecting everything else and verify that there isn't voltage present in your black wire when the others are connected to pos

Help with Battery issues after stereo install

Your negative wire is getting positive voltage from somewhere. If it's wired like you say (and correctly at the stereo) I can't think of how that could happen. The stereo may have a few positive inputs (main power, remote wire, memory power). I'd try disconnecting everything else first. Also...

Hard to start unless starter solenoid is shorted

The slave or the actual starter solenoid? Sounds like your wires are getting hot from a bad connection, increasing the resistance more. When you've tried starting with the key and it's having trouble, does it still start right away when you jump the slave? And by hard to start, you mean it isn't...

    Knocking 4.3 merc

Not necessarily. The gauge reads max pressure in the cylinder. Stuck valve, worn valve guides, worn cylinder/rings, broken rings. Sticking valve, broken rings, piston slap could cause a racket

5.7L 1984, Rough idle at start up, then ok after a minute or so

Typically a bad exhaust manifold leaking into the cylinders. Might try a cylinder drop test, though might be hard to figure out if it's running that rough. Tach issues make it sound electrical though. Try disconnecting gray tach wire from coil.

Hole repair in a boat deck

If there's a hole, you can get behind it. He doesn't have access to the underside. Big difference. Difficult if not impossible to fill a 1" hole with epoxy without some support.

What are your opinions on this boat?

If it's the ignition sensor, that's $40 and 30 minutes like scott said. If it's the ICM, that's $700 and 30 minutes of time. Either way, I'm suspect of anybody selling something that just needs an easy fix (why wouldn't you fix it?). I'd 1) Verify that you're not getting a spark. Assume that...

Mercruiser 4.3 LX won't turn over. Buzzer going off even with key off.

Sounds like you have a short to voltage somewhere. If it's on the buzzer sensor side, that would explain the buzzing (and who knows what weird things it would do with the power on). If it's on the ignition side (stereo wired wrong, etc), it would take another fault (short to ground) in the...
