    76 Starcraft Holiday resto

Your cracked ribs are a classic example of running aluminum hulls in rough water at high speed thus pounding the hull until the ribs crack. Been an aluminum hull boat fan for over 60 years. On big lakes like Erie, it is not uncommon where folks run hard in big waves. After welding you wil still...

    Cleaning fishing rods

You must have one big dishwasher to get a 7' rod in there, or mabey you were refering to the person that does the dishes as the " dishwasher" ....my wife is dissabled so I am the sole dishwasher, so I will be cleaning my own rods, so in some respects, being the dishwasher in our house, the...

    1970 20hp johnson Ran Hot

Of course, anything can be rebuilt with enough time and money. But...is an old motor worth all that will be needed ?? Only you can answer that. Most folks are not interested in major overhauls, just routine maintenence, but even that part often gets overlooked as long as it runs.

    Transom Repair, Caribbean Jaguar.

If the transom is bad, the stringers will be worse ! Gonna need to remove floor and get down into the skeleton of the structure. You have your work cutout, time, work and money, it will take a lot of each !! Be sure you have good safety gear, breathing fiberglass dust and fumes can be deadly..

What snow belt, here in Ohio we haven't had enough snow to even sweep the sidewalk in years !! I gues that if I want snow, I need to sell my snoblower first !!

    1970 20hp johnson Ran Hot

"It bogged down on me a couple times trying to get back to the dock" is a mistake ! This is what paddles and oars are for. If hot enough to stall probably scored cylinder walls. I would not be dependent on that motor any longer, your call....

First boat - 60hp Bigfoot - trim won't stay up during above no wake operation - what is normal?

You sure ut has power trim and not just tilt ? Many outboards just had power tilt only and would not hold under pressure of speed. Otherwise...you have a problem ....

    Yamaha 2022 outboard rigging guide

Should have the factory service manual as well on their site. Try calling Yamaha direct. I generally buy older motors used, but on ocassion have bought a couple new outboards. Always ordered manuals for the new motors directly thru the dealer or ordered from the factory. On my older motor...

    Cleaning fishing rods

I do a lot of yellow perch fishing and we use emerald shinner minnows as bait and there scales come off and stick to anything and everything. Once dried they are very tough to remove, to the point of having to scrape them off my rods. Some of the rods have cork handles, so anyone have a good...

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

Look at the folks comming back from there cruise and found their autos left in the parking lot were flooded over and being some salt water, a number of EV's batteries caught fire !! So far, more battery fires from EV's than we had fires from gas tank fires on the old Ford Pinto's.....those were...

1976 Montego 16- The "Free" Puppy

Drill some test holes into that glassed over wood. That inside wood is probably rotted. If rhe wood shavings cone out dry and wood colored, your good, but if the wood shavings are damp, wet and discolored, then you have weal rotted structure. Unfortunately rhis is what happens on old...

    Value of a 2000 Lowe sea nymph v FM165S

Well I live not far from Lake Erie in Ohio, walleye capitol of the world, so boats tend to run just a little higher around these parts, but there are also lots of boats to choose from so a little higher does not mean worth its weight in gold. Last summer, I bought an extremely nice 1992 Sylvan...

    Value of "Vintage" outboard?

I remember those well from my youth working at a marina next door. Had a couple on our rental boats. Good memories, that motor looks to be in pretty good shape !! In my area, small motors can be a hot item, but still 100 - 250 tops is about it.

    Duel battery troubleshooting

As I am part of the masses and can fully understand that a 12 v battery cannot hold 24 volts, guess I shouldn't waste ny time offering a solution. If it worked I would be considered unintelligent, so I will pass.......

    1984 75hp L4 with unique problem? I'm baffled!

"All cylinders seem to be firing" is not accurate enough to make any diagnosis.....each one needs a spark jump gage to know for sure. If your only going to guess, we can't help. When making tests for diagnosis, these test must be done right and accurate or ???????

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

Yep....watched the dealer do that...not typically something a home mechanic wants to tackle. Wait until you see the price of that tool !! As of three years back was a dealer only item. You need looong arms and willing to stick it in a 125 degree engine bay...engineering at its finest !!

    Cuddy crusier

For those few manuals that might be out there, nothing but how to start, how to wash and wax, and what the buttons and switches mean, absolutely nothing about maintainence or other worth while information.
