375 # for a 90 hp outboard....ouch...man thats a lot of transom weight !! Glad I am still stuck on two strokes...hope you get your steering cable figured out !!
I totally understand the age issue...I am 73....as my wife often states..the only thing golden about getting old is the color of our...
My wife used to be a cake decorator and only used the professional tools on finnishing touches, most was piped on with zip lock bags and cut corners !!!
On my I/O I still used a drain screw, made sure I could reach it before I bought it. I am not comfirtable leaving any crud in the bottom of the pan. They also make drain kits so you can run a hose out the transom drain to drain your oil. Just don't trust a pump, I know many do, but I never...
Most sailboat owners in my area, only use the trailer for winter storage and the boat is in the water for the season. Some are pretty akward looking to say the least. If only used for storage it doesn't take much of a trailer...
I agree, that is why I made my plywood U shaped mounts to straddle the build in seats. The plywood came down a foot and a bungee strap clipped at the bottom held it in position. Very stable, but, could be moved from side to side by unhooking/ hooking the bungee strap. Wish I had pics to show...
I have a much smaller boat ( 16' side console) I troll in Lake Erie using a little 2.2 hp kicker motor. Everyone says way to small but it works. Being a single cylinder vibration can be an issue a slow idle. Being small, cit needs tobrun 1/2 throttle or more which eliminates the vibration and...
How heavy is the load ? If only a tinnie under 1000 lbs not an issue, but if a 4000 lb boat and motor then don't skimp on strength. I am a firm believer in heavy duty, better to be safe than sorry, but...there is such a thing as overkill.
Can't say this enough...when used boat shopping, you have to search long and hard and don't be afraid to drive some distance. When I bought mine, I searched numerousctimes each day for over three months. Made many long drives to look at junk....but each time I learned something !! Then one...
If the seats are in a fixed position, you may regret that when balancing the load. Not a big deal on karger boats, but small tinnies, you need to be able to mive people weight around...been there done that, make them movable.
On my tinnie, I made some large U shapes from wood that straddled the tank style seats. Came down about a foot on each side then used a simple bungee strap to hold them in place so I could slide them from side to side, then screwed the swivel seat to the wood U . Worked great and the ability...
Why cut it, never know what the future might hold...if it isn't bothering anything and it looks like a remote steering, why not leave it long...can't add it back on !!
That is rediculous, just bought that same lube from my local marine dealer to drain my outboard for winter storage....24 bucks with tax !! Walley word was 19.95 !
