    Explosion and Fire Danger

Insurance companies do inspections so they will find things and ask you to change them. It could be things like loose shingles, overhanging branches, sub standard wiring etc.

    Bad Upholstery a Deal Killer?

nah that looks like a 'deck over' meaning a deck laid over an old rotted deck, pass.

    Transom removal on SX

Be careful with those, make sure whatever tool you use really fits properly, because you don't want to strip them. Might want to put the tool in place, give it a few taps with a hammer, maybe carefully use heat on the piece it screws into (pivot housing), because it looks like it's been in there...

    No longer made in USA

I delivered newspapers on my English 3 speed (still have it) for a few summers 1969-1970 and worked at a summer camp all through high school. We did learn how long it takes to make a buck! Today they can't fill the jobs that are here still. What's wrong with this picture? While they are...

Engine alignment ,just got the tool. Pics posted

I think you probably could see it, I know when the harmonic balancer slipped on my '98 Jeep 4.0 it was pretty obvious. As long as you have water hooked up you could run it at idle but the exhaust water would be shooting all over you trying to see the coupler thru the gimble bearing lol. when the...

Engine alignment ,just got the tool. Pics posted

It would be interesting to crank the engine over (ignition & fuel sys disabled) with the drive off looking thru the gimble bearing to see if the coupler spins true….

    Replacing 95 merc 4.3 with 87 OMC 4.3

OMC did not use the triangle shaped coupler it’s a cylinder shaped one with studs that go into the flywheel/crankshaft and nuts that hold the coupler to the studs. Just like what’s seen on a Volvo SX in fact probably the same part! I used a PMGR starter to replace the old Delco starter on mine...

Engine alignment ,just got the tool. Pics posted

If you get a really bright led inspection light & shine it in the bellows you can see the internal splines in the coupler; they should be squared off not rounded off. You have a vib since this engine was installed correct? I’m thinking of other sources….engine flywheel? Harmonic balancer...

In the 1st 2 pics it looks like the tool didn’t go all the way into the coupler, more like about half way.

MerCruiser 5.0 MPI pinging/detonation at higher RPMs

I still have the one I bought in 1973 or so. One end is for the Chevrolet, the other end is for the Ford. Had one of both in the old days, a 5.7 liter Chevrolet and a 5.0 liter Ford. just like this, the 9/16ths was Chevrolet, the 1/2" was Ford...

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

While getting the distributor installed properly & adjusting the hydraulic valve lifters at first seems confusing if you watch enough vids it will start to make sense. When I replaced my cyl heads I had done mechanical valve clearances on VWs, Hondas, Mazdas but never did a Chev with hydraulics...

MerCruiser 5.0 MPI pinging/detonation at higher RPMs

I don’t think there should be any movement of the distributor or cap. Something’s worn or not right there.

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

Ok if you have a pre Vortec engine (‘95 and older) the valve train is adjustable and you HAVE to adjust the hydraulic lash adjusters. The later engines have non adjustable valvetrain & those you just torque to spec.

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

Doing the hydraulic lifter preload adjustment on an SBC is actually easier than setting mechanical valve clearances.

    Can I replace a Mercruiser 5.0L with a 4.5L engine?

Also check the parts prices for that Merc 4.5, when Mercruiser took the old cast iron GM 4.3 design and slightly re-engineered it, they made it more complex and jacked up the price of many parts 2-3x what they were in the past. I wouldn't reward Merc's greed and BTW, you can still buy brand new...
