    there is a count of turns you have to set the shift rod that comes out of the gearbox , from memory there is also a measurement as well. once this is all set up you should get smooth shifting FNR. i don't have the manual with me ATm to give you the setting.

    as for the cutting when shifting , is it possible for that to happen if the shift mechanisim didn't locate to the cable when fitting the drive .

    look in the parts diagram "exhaust flappers " . yours are broken away and remnants are probably in the bottom of the Y pipe blocking it up somewhat.

    + 1 disconnect the linkage , this will determine if it is carb (or TB related) or a sticking / broken cable , a broken cable can double up in the sheathing and cause the throttle to stick WOT . whatever you do get to the bottom of why its stuck WOT before trying the motor again.
