    Dry Firing Outboard

in short , no , that is if the motor has recently been in the water or running with water on the muffs. on a dry motor , yes , it will chew the water pump impeller in no time, the water lubes the impeller and they cook real quick when dry.

i could not honestly answer that ,possibly yes? the 200 was later , mine was defiantly a 150 . as another poster said , the transom mountings changed ," from memory "this motor is the first with the updated transom bolt pattern that conformed with other manufactures and it had the trim assembly...

4.3 vortec engine ( water in oil )

strip it down to a long block and swap everything from your running motor. some xpurt will say a camshaft swap is needed but with a truck motor the cam will be fine .

4.3 vortec engine ( water in oil )

nice thought , but defiantly not , the crack would go through to the head bolt threads.. the crack in the same area on my motor (as mentioned above) did this ,so i would assume the OPs motor block would have suffered the same fate.

4.3 vortec engine ( water in oil )

that is what happened to my second engine block, presure testing did not reveal any leaks ars it only became apparent when the motor was under load. i ran that motor 1/2 an hour on the hose / muffs , it did not even get a drop of condensation in the rocker covers, as soon as i took it over 4k...

4.3 vortec engine ( water in oil )

you may have a crack in the engine block or get lucky and its just a head or intake gasket. i recently went through a saga with the 4.3s where i had 2 cracked blocks , my first experience with the V6 was not pleasant coming from a V8 background . first block original to the boat had split bore...

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

it sounds like the oil pressure switch is stopping the motor from starting , however , can you try again with the " shift interrupt" switch disconnected (to rule that out) and report back.

    Condensation/water in oil?

what motor ?. brown oil , sludge in rocker covers , sorry to say but i think you have a bigger problem than just some condensation. it is a possibility there is water getting into the oil somehow ( crack in block , cylinder head gasket ,intake corrosion ,etc) , you must find the cause ASAP or...

    196 351W Flywheel

yes they are just slightly off, i usually mark the FW and crank with paint marker so as i can just put the FW strait on. but since you don't have that luxury :) ,a smear of grease on the end of the crank will make it easy to spin the FW to align the bolt holes correctly

i miss lake Eildon, it must be pretty busy up there since the Murray got floods. that said :) , do that compression test to address that rough running. the 5.0 is a robust motor but the head gaskets are a weak point when they get heated from lack of water flow. ? did any smoke come from the...

RE: Issues with Mercruiser 5.0 LX 4 Barrel Carb

welcome from fellow Aussie , ( Perth ) , i would start by removing the outdrive , check the pump impeller and then for obstructions in the water passages / hoses to the motor. it sounds as if you may have overheated the motor ? is there any sign of water in the oil , if not a head gasket may...

*( Yamaha WR650 crankshaft seal is bad can i move the engine forward and tilt it up to remove flange also how does the flange com off ?? any answers

the flange / coupler is screwed on in the direction so as it tightens as the pump is loaded ( right tight , left loose), it usually needs a special tool to get them loose as they can be very tight , the ears snap easily if you force them too much. i have had to cut a few off over the years and...

MerCruiser 3.0 - loud metal noise when in gear

same stuff , different bucket . ok seeing as Op wont be able to use 5200  , maybe , just some spit and angle grinder with 24 grit ,buff it up and stick a bit of bondo on the ring to hold it in place. in other words , Op needs to discard the element that is chopped up ( IE: the gimble...
