1985 Mercury Tower of Power 115 high rpm miss

I couldn't hear any miss. One thing you gotta do on engines of that Era, is disable the 'Back Drag' feature on the Carbs. It was a way of leaning out the Mix at part Throttle, in order to reduce Fuel Consumption. Problem is that the Gasolines of Today are already Chemically Leaned, and the...

1990 90HP Pontoon, 4300 RPM at WOT, Do I need a new prop?

A prop for a 150 is never going to fit on a 90hp. The Diameter is too great, and the Hub is matched to the V6 Gearcase, which is Larger than the one on the 90

1990 90HP Pontoon, 4300 RPM at WOT, Do I need a new prop?

I call BS on the "Aluminum deflects too much" If there is any Flex, and that's a big if, it is less than 1/100". That bit of Marketing Misinformation has sold millions of SS props

Converting old log style to new center style manifolds

Has Mercrusier or Volvo used the 302 the past 30 yrs? If so, they might have a newer style Manifold. Of course everything downstream would need adaptation as well

1990 90HP Pontoon, 4300 RPM at WOT, Do I need a new prop?

We agree that a 15" is too much. A 13 would likely place the motor near its Peak Power, an 11 would raise the Rpms but the Motor will be putting out less than the rated hp

    Rebuilt Carburetor… Still No Idle!

Idle speed is set by retarding/advancing the Timing, which, Lo and Behold is linked to the Idle Stop Screw via the Linkages,. All the Idle Stop Screw does is Limit how far the Timing can be retarded

1990 90HP Pontoon, 4300 RPM at WOT, Do I need a new prop?

I have rarely seen any real rpm Differences between an AL and a SS Prop, provided they have the same Blade Shape, Area, Contour, Cupping and Rake. I think the 13 would get you to about 4800- 4900 rpm, an 11 would put you 5200 - 5400 range The 90 makes its best power, slightly below 5000 rpm...

    What Mercury Do I Have?

With a Merc, you need to give the Serial # to the Parts Person at the Dealer. Same goes for ordering online, the serial # will get you to the Correct Parts List Mercury would often make changes to engines midway thru a Production Yr, so there could be several Parts Lists within a given Year.

1990 90HP Pontoon, 4300 RPM at WOT, Do I need a new prop?

Larger Diameters are more Prone to Ventilation as the Blade Tips are higher up. Mercury's Prop Selector was saying 12 or 11 inch pitch, but it is trying to get the Rpms above 5000 A Mercury Black Max and hub Kit to put it on your Evinrude would be okay.

Old Evinrude question, Can anyone help?

The difference between a Lark and a Big Twin, is Paint, a few shiny bits of Trim on the Cowl, and a Cover over the Choke, Mixture Knobs, and Cowl Latch The Clutch Dog on a 56 should just slide off, forward or backward. Does it slide back and forth on the Splines?

Old Evinrude question, Can anyone help?

I believe the Snap Ring is being used a stop for the Trust Washer. If it that Washer moves, the Reverse Gear can move also, with not good results. If it the correct Thickness, I can't see why it won't work. Yours does have a Tapered Roller Bearing at the Front of the Propshaft?

1990 90HP Pontoon, 4300 RPM at WOT, Do I need a new prop?

You will probably have to drop 4 inches to get close to where the Engine makes its best power. A bigger motor is what your boat really needs

1967 evinrude 80 hp need help.

I know the I/Os with that case, had an option of a 14" pitch, something that didn't show up on the Outboard Lists. Our 90 on the Evinrude Sweet 16 did 4400 with the 11" prop, and 4800 with the 9 1/4"
