Parts that interchange from 86 4.3 MerCruiser to 01

The newer covers (except for real new) are composite. Again, the CPS reluctor might need to be removed

Parts that interchange from 86 4.3 MerCruiser to 01

It will fit. You may need to pull the timing chain cover and remove the crankshaft position sensor reluctor under there (but you may not--i wasn't able to confirm if that was necessary).

    4.3 Vortec Upgrade

Mine's routed the same way. Trimmed the dipstick tube, dipstick itself doesn't need cut. You can't suck the oil from the tube after that, but can check the level. I installed a remote filter kit and a drain tube that can be routed through the bilge and out the transom drain. Makes life so much...

    1974 Starcraft 18' runabout w/3.0 140HP 4-cyl. *So many Questions*

Usually easier to remove the lag bolt rather than the mounts themselves. People when replacing the belt will often put a spare underneath the mount, so that it can be replaced next time without messing with the mount you might not be able to find oem, but aftermarket is a lot of times...

    Mercruiser 3.0 unexplained rotational noise

Even though the prop is the only additional thing turning in gear, you aren't under load in neutral (and you said you were testing in the water and not on land). Certainly possible for u joints or gimbal bearing to only make noise when a load is applied. Does it vary with Drive position...

    1986 mercruiser 140 3.0L

Interesting. I would think that you'd fry the points and it would never run right. Thanks for the update

    Boat refueling

These are submerged, no vapors to ignite. I'd at least do a marine fuel pump. I have regular jerry cans that i put vents into (you can buy 10 for $5 or something, drill a small hole in the can and pop them in). Use a large funnel, remove spout from jerry can and pour away. The vent makes the...

    Gimbal Bearing Noise?

Some threaded rod, a couple of nuts and washers to use as a press. No. Moog 315g u-joints, I just ordered a couple off of amazon for $12 each Tube is easier to install, it's a bit louder

    Gimbal Bearing Noise?

An allen wrench works fine on the hinge pins, they just need heat. The trim sender bolt sucks, but it is possible. Exhaust tube makes that part of the job a non issue.

    Clickity clack

New to me outdrive, changed water pump, a seal, and ujoints at the start of season. Soon after had slight clicking on turns, has gotten worse. Pulled drive today... Yikes. It would appear that one of the clips came loose. Joint was contacting the inner surface of the large retainer nut. Glad I...

Mercruiser 3.0 Stalling When Giving Gas in Forward Gear

Meaning it's not closing when you throttle up in the water? Agree that this sounds like the issue.

    Electrical Issues - Help?

I have a large screwdriver that serves that purpose on all solenoids and it's versatile enough to work on oil pressure switch as well. I have been thinking about throwing a relay somewhere on my ignition circuit. Rewiring the helm isn't going to happen, but there's so much potential for voltage...

'87 Merc 165 3.7 runs 20 minutes dies then hard to crank

The water will leak past the rings if allowed to sit The blower running didn't actually affect the temp. If your wiring is older the extra resistance created by turning the blower on can make the gauge read higher. You didn't confirm if slow cranking was the problem?

'87 Merc 165 3.7 runs 20 minutes dies then hard to crank

The stat on that motor is 160, the gauge temp is notoriously inaccurate. Blower running will probably change what you're seeing on the gauge. Barely turn over like a dead battery? If so, first thing I'd check is water in the cylinders causing a hydrolock.

Mercruiser 2.5 Alpha One gen 1 - running without exhaust bellows

Do all of your bellows. If exhaust went, the others aren't far behind, which leads to major damage if you're lucky and a submarine if you're not.

4.3L Front Engine mounts (old style) in Sea Ray Seville

The stud should be at a right angle to the mount. It looks like you can push the new Mount forward and have it aligned with the holes, it isn't aligned with the rear either. That said, it certainly possible that the original mounts were not perfect, and the rubber took a set over time.
