    The black / yellow is part of the kill circuit.-----One clean plug might mean no spark.-----No fuel.----Too much fuel.-----No crankcase compression.

    Grounding a black / yellow stripe might stop the motor.----Best to find a wiring diagram and check all wiring.

    Not hard to find a used crankshaft.----Not hard to install.

    On the 73 you remove the screw.----Turn the motor so hole is down.----Oil drains.-----Turn motor so that hole faces up.-----Fill with oil.-----Install plug.

    Just another tall tale that your brother heard !------Wind on a prop is not going to turn any motor over !!!-----If prop spins in neutral you could cause extra wear on seals as rubber could get warm with no cooling water around.

    I was surprised that the 73 model uses the 2 HP lower unit.-----The 4 HP uses a different crankshaft.-----More metal on it to take up space in the crankcase.-----Little better scavenging results in more power.-----The weedless drive was common from the late 1940's .-----Used for many years !

    You should remove bypass covers to inspect pistons / rings.-----Do not spend any $$$ on this motor until you deal with the low compression.

    Changing the belt should not be different between a 2009 and a recent model.-----Same belt and sprockets are used on a 2024 model I believe.------Sad that some shops are only interested in writing up $20,000 invoices for new motors.----Perhaps contact Yamaha and find an actual proper factory...

    Very few car engines run at constant 5000 / 6000 RPM.-----And there is a need to know whether it is clearance engines or not ?

    You need to adjust the stop on that rod.----It is an adjustment that looks wrong to folks when in fact it is correct.

    Slow speed mixture screw.----And the adjustment on that rod.----So 2 things to look at and adjust I think.

    Remove the flywheel and inspect coils / clean and set breaker points.

    Rubber boot is a dust cover for choke mechanism..----Not your issue.-----Remove flywheel and check for cracked coils / breaker points that need cleaning.
