    1973 Mercury 115 2 stroke engine questions

The switchbox needs power on the red and adjacent white wires to provide spark. Red is always hot and the white is given power when the ign key is on or start. The wires on the distributor are often bad. You might check them.

    Power trim

Gee, you might tell us what motor you are talking about. $3000 would be a total replacement of the PTT unit, I would think.

    1973 Mercury 115 2 stroke engine questions

You can easily jumper the ign on that motor. However, the ign components are real expensive, so one does not want to mess it up. As was said, Merc Dealers had maybe 12 keys for all the OB motors. If you can drag the boat to a dealer, a key could be had in a minute or two, unless the key...

    Faulty heat gauge or ? 1988 V135

The thermostats on that motor open at 143*F. The motor should run at idle somewhere around that temp. However, above idle the poppit valve takes over. It dumps water out the exhaust at 2000RPM or so, as water pressure dictates. A temp gauge is not real accurate for those motors. A water...

1988 V135 Reeves timing method vs the Merc book?

I would use Merc timing method on Merc's. Normally that motor would have a 0-9*ATDC at idle pickup, and a 21* BTDC for max spark advance. It can be checked while cranking the engine, spark plugs 2-6 removed. This check is pretty easy....

Gas Tank Capacity for 1992 Cobia Monte Carlo?

The fuel tank would normally have a sticker with it's capacity. Check for a hatch which exposes the fuel gauge sender. Alternatively, try to find it on the website of the OEM.

    Bewildered

Generally speaking, the outboard wiring is separate from the boat wiring. The motor wiring will be self contained in the boat harness from the motor to the control/keyswitch. I would recommend that that be restored to original. Dashboard wiring should be a fuse on a heavy wire from the...

93 mariner wont rev above 4000 replacing of bunch of spark components

Gee, how about a compresion check? Also, examine the spark plug color. A clean spark plug can indicate water intrusion, which puts out the fire of combustion. How have you verified that it is running on all cylinders?

    No air filters?

That motor may have come with plastic gratings over the carb throats. They have "hooks" on top of the throat and holes for the bolt under the throat, to attach the plastic gratings. However, as was said, air cleaners are unnecessary. The gratings kept large pieces of junk out of the...

Speakers in same compartment as gas tank?

Your fuel tank is permanent, doesn't leak and vented? It should not be an issue.

    1996 90HP Evinrude

A lot of those midsection to Gearcase joints have slots to allow water to leak out.

Does the switch box impact the rev limiter?

Pump the primer bulb at high RPM and see if that fixes it. 5000 RPM would be an unusual Rev limiter. They would usually be at 6200 or more.

    Weatherproof Fabric Adhesive?

Gee most adhesives are waterproof. Even Titebond III which is a wood glue is weather proof.

Does the switch box impact the rev limiter?

What makes you think there is a rev limiter at 5000RPM? Sounds more like a fuel delivery issue. You might pump the primer bulb and see if she will hold 5000+ RPM.

Water coming from spark plug hole inline 6 following overheat

If the bolts came out, you have a fresh water only motor. Congrats on that. Salty motors usually break all but the very bottom bolts, for some reason.

    No power on top end

If she won't fire on starting fluid, you do not have any spark. Maybe the spark is weak enough that it cannot jump the gap under compression.

    Oil pan drain hose

Gee, I just pulled the plug and let her drain thru the garboard drain. A couple of squirts of purple stuff cleaner and a blast with the hose cleaned up the residual oil in the bilge. No pump, no mess.

    Vro alarm e70tlcur

Alarms on lots of outboard motors sound when the sender is grounded. You might check for a sender wire rubbing the block.

1983 black max 150 running poor

A fuel pump diaphragm leak will allow raw fuel into the cylinders, causing hesitation upon acceleration, wet plugs, excess smoking.

1984 115 hp mercury inline 6 Trim problems.

A 1984 engine could have the PTT pump and reservoir in the boat or between the transom clamps. The older PTT system (pump/reservoir in the boat) could use 5W-30 motor oil or ATF. I would determine what you have and keep using it. The newer units (between the transom clamps) use Dextron ATF of...
